Hello everyone!
For many years, people have been requesting an official SCP Discord, both in the on-site and the off-site. In 2018, an official SCP Discord was proposed, but was shot down due to a variety of reasons. The reasons provided were both valid and invalid, but needless to say it was not popular with staff at the time. However, most — if not all — of the issues raised have since been alleviated, and I am thus happy to announce that we are officially in the process of starting an official SCP Discord!
The Official SCP Discord has technically been in progress since October of last year. We've been working hard on various features and designing policy, as well as seeking feedback from other experienced moderators and learning about how other Discords design their servers. In order to make sure everything works perfectly and the server isn't overwhelmed, we're sending the invites out slowly and to specific communities in a roll-out way. We're hoping that the invite link will be on the site's sidebar within six months, though we don't know how this timeframe will pan out. In the meantime, please don't pester staff for invite links — when you find it in the wild or on the site, you'll be able to join.
The IRC will still operate alongside the Discord, though the Discord and IRC will maintain separate staff and policies. How the Discord will interface with the Wiki's staff structure and 05command will be decided following the upcoming Charter Rewrites.
We'd also like to thank the following artists for making emotes and other art for the discord; they did almost all of this for free and their work is incredibly appreciated!
It's a huge pleasure for me to announce this, and a massive privilege to lead this change with how we interact with the community, provide critique, and host events. Thank you to everyone who assisted with the server's construction and moderation, and thank you to everyone who proposed ideas and server changes during our testing phases. We hope to be able to see everyone there soon!
