Now that it isn’t sleep time (okay it is but I don’t have work tomorrow this time) we can all have a better sentence.
Here are some of the background facts we have for this user that may offer some context:
- formerly simpforinequity, made to change name.
Kind of weird, but not the end of the world. Defintely not a good start though.
- Came in asking about pregnancy effecting anomalies with -3 tact. Got combative when asked to drop it by l1ly and a user who has lost a child.
I was personally here for this conversation, it was a *trainwreck*. There was absolutely no tact shown, and as mentioned a user who lost a child had to be like “just stop”. This was after multiple “hey, maybe wait til you’ve got a bit more experience”/“don’t write that, it’s too sensitive as is” comments, where the hole just got deeper and the lack of regard for such a traumatic event was disregarded. The conversation was stop ordered, because it was clearly distressing a lot of people, and as mentioned the user got combatative.
- Age checked: 19 y/o. (2021-09-29)
This comment here is chat staff shorthand for: acting immaturely so we made sure they were of age
- came back to 19 in the "simp" nick; claimed it was an autologin accident when called out - noting it here in case if this turns out to be a lie + non-useful crits in critters (2021-09-29)
The name thing probably just was an accident, but we’re going for transparency with our notes on this one. The crit thing is kind of neutral, I didn’t witness it, but non useful crit is a thing that can become an issue.
So compound this behaviour (all of which we issued warnings for), with an appeal that whether inadvertently or not, compares Queer folks to Zoophiles and Pedophiles, and the usage of MAP (i.e Minor Attracted Person(s)), and it’s all a ball of “woah okay what on earth”. You can argue that this was a case of putting your foot in your mouth, but I cannot think of a single context where you actually need to clarify that you don’t support pedophiles/zoophiles in order to appeal your ban for misusing the pronoun bot, it’s a red flag, at the absolute minimum a shining amber one.
The appeal also completely failed to take responsibility for the actions, I’ll be paraphrasing: “I didn’t understand the rule” “I didn’t think fucking with pronouns meant this” (where this was fucking with pronouns), and “I didn’t think I’d be punished so quick” (this one was weird to me)
All in all, we decided to give the user a 6 month ban so that they could take some time to reflect, and return at a maturity level/with interactions more suitable for chat. The idea of a perma was briefly tossed around, but we decided 6 months was much more suitable.
And as mentioned, 4 people voted on it. We essentially had a 6.5 person team at the time of the ban, so this was a majority. The chat staff roster is not representative of who is actually chat staff right now, because even users with that title are rarely around to do actual chat staff things.
