Summer Promos 2021
These are votes of confidence. If you are unfamiliar or on the fence about someone, vote NO. Only vote yes if the candidate has your confidence and genuinely feels ready for promotion in your mind.
Please post even if you are abstaining from voting.
Staff may abstain from voting if it is in regards to a Junior Staff member moving to Operational Staff only. If more than one third of staff abstain on a user, and/or less than 60 per cent of voters say yes, this is treated as a no. I will be rounding down.
Interviews of the JS members and potential moderators were held by the relevant subteam of MAST. Thank you to all who helped out. Interview responses are available to staff upon request.
This promotion vote will end in:
Operational Staff Voting:
This is an open vote for all staff members.
Below is a group of suggestions regarding JUNIOR STAFF who Team Captains have nominated to be voted upwards to OPERATIONAL STAFF. Please read the commentary provided in order to help your judgement regarding these staff. If you feel they have displayed readiness, vote yes. If they are not ready, vote no; please explain your reasoning.
Junior Staff Member: | Vivarium |
Captain/Team: | DrBleep (MAST) |
Why: | Vivarium has been a consistent presence since they joined MAST back near the end of February. Normally I prefer to allow 1-2 cycles after addition of Junior Staff prior to putting them up for promotions, but Vivarium has displayed a consistent awareness of staff work, user conduct, and need for policy. They've volunteered for just about any and all work, from minor to major projects, and were a force of nature in helping tally town hall votes for Harmony's articles, and were a big driver behind assembly and tracking down backlinks, crosslinks, and collating all of Harmony's works on the site. They've been a consistent tagger, and one of our most active participants in Wikiwalk. They've been vocal about new policy, and have volunteered to help rewrite internal MAST sub-team guides. Vivarium has a level of maturity and drive that I typically look for in new staff members, and knows how to balance real life with staff work and other hobbies. http://scp-sandbox-3.wikidot.com/vivarium-7 |
Optional areas of improvement: | No visible areas of improvement at this time. |
Junior Staff Member: | Limeyy |
Captain/Team: | DrBleep (MAST) |
Why: | Like Vivarium, Limeyy has been a consistent presence in regards to MAST work since joining the team. They've been involved in tagging and collating Harmony's articles, and recently joined collections where they have been doing great work. Limeyy's biggest strengths are their ability to offer substantial literary feedback in chat venues. They are a regular presence in TheCritters and Site19, and they always have insightful thoughts on policy for improving tale visibility and what does/does not work in a piece as well as commentary on literary analysis. I genuinely think it's a shame that we currently don't have an IRC based critt team (even though I know there are proposals in the works) because Limeyy would absolutely be deserving of promotion on their contributions there alone, much less what they have contributed to MAST as a team. They, like Vivarium, are aware of policy initiatives and have not been afraid to voice their opinion on O5. Additionally, they have a healthy understanding of their time committments, and do not commit themselves to lots of projects all at once, choosing to focus down and balance their staff work against their real life and writing. Limeyy is another strong candidate. For examples of some of the works they have tagged: http://scpdsandbox.wikidot.com/limey:mast |
Optional areas of improvement: | No areas of improvement at this time. |
Junior Staff Member: | pr0m37h3um |
Captain/Team: | DrBleep (MAST) |
Why: | Prom is one of the most active and vocal members of MAST Js. Everywhere I look they are contributing, commenting, tagging, reading, etc. Prom has been a frequent tag reporter, commenting on and generating both reports and active implementation of tags. They've been a frequent source of information in generating Non-discs, they've participated in wikiwalk efforts, and have offered suggestions and help in just about every other MAST sub-section, and were a major contributor in re-attributing Harmony's works. They've been a vocal proponent in policy discussions both internally and on O5. They're personable, and really intune with both author and reader opinions. Prom knows how to balance their staff work/real life committments and I have no concerns about burnout. http://scpdsandbox.wikidot.com/prometheus-promotions-sandbox-2 |
Optional areas of improvement: | None that I can think of. |
Junior Staff Member: | Joreth |
Captain/Team: | TSATPWTCOTTTADC (IO) |
Why: | Joreth has been a moderator and friendly face in the SCP Reddit community since early 2017 - helping people get oriented in the fandom and figure out the wiki, and attentively taking care of various administrative things. For a while he got busy with other things, took some time off from SCP, got auto-demoted for inactivity, and a couple of weeks after that came back. There were no obstacles to just bringing him back on as Operational Staff per the new rules for returning staff, but we elected to just take it easy at first and let Joreth go through being Junior Staff again. He has caught up quickly and has again hit his stride as a consistently available and helpful member of that satellite fandom, a diligent keeper of administrative tasks, and a good Reddit community moderator. |
Optional areas of improvement: | None, this candidate is phenominal. |
Junior Staff Member: | CityToast |
Captain/Team: | ProcyonLotor (licensing) |
Why: | CityToast is an invaluable staffer for Licensing Team. His knowledge of the Creative Commons license, and his history of working with it, surpasses that of both Modern_Erasmus and myself, and he has been immensely valuable in being able to provide answers and guidance on edge-case scenarios that arise. Additionally, he's proven a great capacity for project work, often with little oversight. It is not an exaggeration to say that the fantastically succesful Licensebox initiative was thought up and brought through to practice almost entirely by Toast, mostly (perhaps entirely) alone. |
Optional areas of improvement: | In his early days as junior staff, he displayed a certain tendency to put his foot in his mouth, which ruffled a few feathers among other members of staff. Toast has worked hard to improve this, and has been perhaps the single staffer I've had who has been the most vigorous in seeking input on how they could improve. I do not foresee this being a problem in the future. |
To Moderator:
This is a closed vote, only open to Moderators and Administrators.
Below is a suggestion regarding an OPERATIONAL STAFF MEMBER whose Captain has nominated to be voted upwards to MODERATOR. Please read the commentary provided by Team Captain in order to help your judgement regarding these staff. If you feel they have displayed readiness, vote yes. If they are not ready, vote no; please explain your reasoning.
Operational Staff Member: | WhiteGuard |
Captain/Team: | DrBleep (MAST) |
Why: | Where do I even begin with Whiteguard? Do I need to give an actual reason for his promotion for Moderator? This is Whiteguard we are talking about. Whiteguard has been one of the most consistently active operational staff in MAST, he's a section head of O5 updating, and he is almost singlehandedly responsible for updating any and all staff master lists when the need arises. IT's at the point where, Whiteguard not being a moderator actively impedes his work. This is just discussing his contributions within this specific subsection. That I'm aware of, Whiteguard is an integral part of MAST, multiple Community outreach sub-teams, and licensing. Whiteguard has been a key component of driving the Site Charter rewrite. Beyond that, Whiteguard is a consistent and level voice in policy discussion across a broad range of topics, and has been a stable anchor for many of us in the incidents of the past few months. Whiteguard often approaches discussion and topics with a calmness, maturity, perspective insight, and empathic capability that I would expect to see from someone who was an admin, much less a moderator. Strong and emphatic support for Whiteguard in every conceivable department, especially as he understands how to balance real life and other committments with staff work. http://scp-sandbox-3.wikidot.com/whiteguard-s-outreach-log |
Optional areas of improvement: | Whiteguard is an outstanding staffer whose perception and outlook and knowledge of site and community workings has only improved since he became OS. He probably won't be here to see this promotion vote, amusingly, cause he's actually taken time off to get ready for his wedding. I have no areas of improvement for Whiteguard, he is exactly what I look for in a great staffer, and one day, sooner rather than later, he's going to make an exceptional admin. |
Candidate | YES | NO |

WhiteGuard |
Vote YES or NO. Someone who you are ambivalent to should not receive your vote of confidence for staff. If you don't know who someone is, then I invite you to educate yourself and get to know their work before voting.
