User Sir Noncy Dorp recently posted the following in response to a coldpost: http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-1399646/scp-2167#post-2389725
I wouldn't take it too personally. I've been watching people try to write a story for this SCP in particular. I tried it myself. Every time, people give the feedback of something like, "This is basically SCP-1003," or "But why has this happened? There's not enough information - Downvote." It is a very sad thing to watch.
Of course it's going to have similarities with other SCPs. There are over 2,000 of them. I'll admit, I didn't understand a lot of what was going on in this article. I wouldn't bother trying to improve. It seems a lot of these people here only want to point out the flaws of what you have written, because they are so full of pride and want to believe they are better than you.
Don't believe me? Sit back and watch. It's a very enlightening experience.
When I called them out on the feedback (exact reply collapsed)

Um… I checked the recent changes on your profile. You don't appear to have a sandbox. Did you get feedback on your work before you posted it to the mainsite?
Once something is submitted to the site proper, it's considered finished work that's ready for summary judgment. At that point, no one is obligated to give any more feedback than their vote, and anyone who does so is doing the author a favor, not fulfilling an obligation.

This is something you should never say to an author.

If you have an issue with the feedback someone has given to on the site, please notify a staff member and we will deal with it. Personal attacks do not improve the situation, and distract from the issue at hand, which is the critique given by the person and not the person themselves.

I would love to encourage him and say, "It's alright, just a couple more tries and this could very well be permanent." I'm not telling him to stop writing entirely. I'm warning him that this place will never accept any new ideas, and to take his writing skills and use them for something else more welcoming.

I'm warning him that this place will never accept any new ideas,
New ideas are written up all the time; hence the preference for novelty ideas in the forums and mainsite itself. I'm not sure where you're getting this advice from.
and to take his writing skills and use them for something else more welcoming.
If the author wants to write an SCP, and they're willing to put in the effort to learn the skills necessary to write an SCP, there's no need to shunt them off the site just because their first work doesn't do well.
I'm calling a stop to this conversation. Readers, please focus discussion on the material of the article from now on.
Do not reply if you are not staff. This is a closed staff post.
Keep an eye on. This is definitely not the sort of feedback that should be given to newbies.
