Fall/Winter Promotions October 2020
Welcome to the final promotion cycle of 2020. After this cycle of promotions, all promotion cycles will be following this schedule.
These are votes of confidence. If you are unfamiliar or on the fence about someone, vote NO. Only vote yes if the candidate has your confidence and genuinely feels ready for promotion in your mind.
Please post even if you are abstaining from voting.
As a reminder, we established a new bit of policy: Staff may abstain from voting if it is in regards to a Junior Staff member moving to Operational Staff only. If more than one third of staff abstain on a user, and/or less than 60 per cent of voters say yes, this is treated as a no. I will be rounding down.
Interviews of the JS members were held by the relevant subteam of MAST. Thank you to all who helped out. Interview responses are available to staff upon request.
In the past, Dexanote has been handling these promotions, but has since handed them off to me. I will be running them for the foreseeable future.
This promotion vote will end in:
Operational Staff Voting:
This is an open vote for all staff members.
Below is a group of suggestions regarding JUNIOR STAFF who Team Captains have nominated to be voted upwards to OPERATIONAL STAFF. Please read the commentary provided in order to help your judgement regarding these staff. If you feel they have displayed readiness, vote yes. If they are not ready, vote no; please explain your reasoning.

Cerastes |
Captain/Team: |
Modern_Erasmus (Internet Outreach) |
Why: |
Cerastes has been a great help on IO on our Instagram page and to a lesser extent on our tumblr. Alongside Akimoto, Cerastes is responsible for revitalizing our instagram page from a dead platform to a thriving one that even hosts events like the Instagram art contests. |

KaraKatt |
Captain/Team |
ProcyonLotor (CO/Licensing), taylor_itkin (CO) |
Why: |
Karakatt is one of the most committed, versatile JS I've had the pleasure of working with. Their enthusiasm is only matched by their wide duties and willingness to explore work in all sections of the site. While burnout is a concern that some staff have brought up regarding them, I've had extensive conversations with them on the topic and am convinced it is not an issue they are likely to fall prey to. |
Optional Areas of Improvement: |
As stated above, Karakatt does a large amount of work regularly. While burnout is one fear staff have brought up, stretching themselves too thin in regards to their workload is another. I’d like to see Karakatt dedicate a majority of their efforts to a few specific projects, rather than try and dedicate all of their efforts to everything. |

Nagiros |
Captain/Team: |
DrBleep/Roget (MAST) |
Why: |
Nagiros has come a long way as Junior Staff and has been one of the biggest turnarounds that I've witnessed in a long time. You all may recall that Nagiros originally received a C&D from tech team for improper tagging. I think it speaks greatly to their progress as a junior staffer that they are now identifying incorrect tags and able to poke people to issue C&D's and write up nondisc reports with oversight now. They've come a long way as a tagger and a junior staffer and I'm happy to finally put them up for promotions. |
Optional Areas of Improvement: |
I think Nagiros' biggest weakness right now is their abrasiveness and impulsivity. There are times where they have leapt headfirst into situations without thinking and can rub other MAST members a little wrong. That said, the improvement I've seen is of such a profound nature that I'm willing to overlook these minor flaws as long as they continue to improve. |

Naveil |
Captain/Team |
Zyn (Forum Crit) |
Why: |
Naveil has contributed significantly to keeping the review forums running smoothly, particularly when addressing posts that don’t follow the listed guidelines. They’ve got an excellent eagle eye for spotting repeat threads and instances of authors posting more than the limits noted (example: http://www.scpwiki.com/forum/t-13792525/the-soothsayer#post-4790228), and readily answer queries about the writing process in the Questions Desk forum (example: http://www.scpwiki.com/forum/t-13792027/help-for-a-newbie#post-4790149). They’re polite, efficient, and focused, and an excellent member of the team. |
Optional Areas of Improvement: |
I would like to see them write forum reviews a bit more often, or potentially lead a mentorship flight. Currently their activity seems heavily focused on the forum moderation aspect of staff duties. |
Junior Staff Member |
OCuin |
Captain/Team |
Zyn (Forum Crit) |
Why: |
OCuin has an excellent critique approach, particularly with regards to incorporating the information from other reviewers in a discussion thread and keeping concept review posts straightforward (example: http://www.scpwiki.com/forum/t-13759540/scp-buddhas#post-4782646). I appreciate that their tone is professional—neither sugar-coated nor overly nitpicky (example from a draft review: http://www.scpwiki.com/forum/t-13774065/first-scp-draft#post-4785970). They respond to PM requests consistently and have additionally been a flight commander for the August mentorships. |
Optional Areas of Improvement: |
As with all reviewers, I do want them to remain mindful of burnout, especially with the volume of requests they respond to. Currently not an issue I think, but I would like them to keep in mind that it’s always fine to step back for a breather if/when you need/want to. |

Captain/Team: |
taylor_itkin/ProcyonLotor (Community Outreach) |
Why: |
Statement from TheMightyMcB on behalf of Seminars: Since his joining of the Seminars subteam of CO in June of this year, OCuin has proved himself to be a valuable member of the team. OCuin has been present at every single seminar that has occurred after their joining, they are active in team discussions, routinely offer up suggestions and ideas, and complete their duties as a member of the seminars team to the letter, often going above and beyond what is asked of them. Nearly immediately after joining the team, OCuin and I worked together to completely revamp the Seminar Team's internal resources, a process that he continues to do on his own to this day (completely unprompted, might I add). In addition to this, OCuin aided their fellow seminar staffer MalyceGraves with their Twitch.tv seminar about the critique forums by writing an entire original ideas thread pitch to be used as an example of what not to do for the seminar. They have, in my opinion, clearly demonstrated a level of tenacity and drive that allows me to lend my full confidence to their promotion to operational staff. |

The Pighead |
Captain/Team: |
DrBleep/Roget (MAST) |
Why: |
Pighead has come a long long way from where she was a year to two years ago. She's been a monumentally important part of updating O5, tagging, wikiwalk, forum crit, and helping with site news. She volunteers and chomps at the bit to help with every major project she can get her hands. Her work ethic is phenominal plain and simple. Not only that, but she has been active in discussions making suggestions, and has made a concerted and very noticeable effort in improving her english fluency in writing. Go look at posts she made a 1-2 years ago and look at her most recent posts now and the differential is almost night and day. It's been astounding to watch. |
Optional Areas of Improvement: |
Pighead's only clear weakness right now is that there are still lapses in her english, which make understanding her points at times a little difficult. This is a minor issue now as opposed to a few years ago as her english is almost better than some native speakers I know. I also wish to see a little more from her on the front of policy formulation. Otherwise, I'm insanely pleased with her progress. |

UncertaintyCrossing |
Captain/Team |
ProcyonLotor/taylor_itkin (CO) |
Why: |
Statement from UraniumEmpire on behalf of Introductions: UncertaintyCrossing has been an invaluable member of introductions, easily one of my longest-serving JS. They've also done some good work with licensing/images, helping to replace certain infringing images as well as helping with recordkeeping. They were also a helpful voice in discussion on Art Plagiarism policy. Additionally, though not strictly under I/O purview, UC has been managing the SCP Amino for quite some time. |
Junior Staff Member |
WhiteGuard |
Captain/Team: |
DrBleep/Roget (MAST) |
Why: |
What do you want me to say here? WhiteGuard really and truly doesn't need any advocacy. Vote yes or else. Jokes aside, WhiteGuard is bar none the cream of the crop and someone that every team would (and probably already is) dying to have. They have their hands in policy, tackle grunt work like a machine, and are always pointing out things that need to be done. It's hard to find more praise for WhiteGuard than he's already received, and that I'm certain the other teams he's on will have for him. He's just that kind of staffer. WhiteGuard has been a force in updating O5 and staff master lists, among other things. |
Optional Areas of Improvement: |
I don't really have any recommendations or weaknesses to point out for WhiteGuard, at least none that elevation into the ranks of operational staff won't eek out like the naivety about specific site users. |

ManyMeats |
Captain/Team |
SoullessSingularity (Site Crit) |
Contributions to the Wiki and teams: |
This user was previously going to be put up for promotion last cycle, but we decided to give a chance at more experience in policy instead. Since then, I believe ManyMeats has had time to develop, observe, and participate in policy discussions to the point where I have few concerns with their qualifications both in the day-to-day duties and policy discussion. |
Operational Staff Member |
Yossipossi |
Captain/Team: |
DrBleep/Roget (MAST) |
Contributions to the Wiki and teams: |
Yossi is currently the section head for the O5 Updating team on MAST and has been crucial for the restructuring effort and update of the O5 forums and had a well thought out, phased plan for each step of it's update. Yossi has also been a monumental contributor in just about every other MAST section/project to date, including several super secret projects that remain out of public view. Yossi has played pivotal roles in bridging the gaps between staff and the community at times, and has been a key lynchpin in providing additional insight/information towards rule-changes and site changes and continues to do so. |
Optional Section: |
I want to take a second and speak to Yossi's maturation. I originally had misgivings about Yossi when he was first promoted to OS because of his association with SCPD/DMFS19. I'm happy to say that my impression of Yossi has changed quite a bit over the duration of knowing him, first as a regular member of MAST and then a Co-captain. Yossi has evolved and matured a lot in the time he's worked next to and under me. I wholeheartedly believe that Yossi is more than deserving of, and will make a phenominal moderator. |
Vote YES or NO. Someone who you are ambivalent to should not receive your vote of confidence for staff. If you don't know who someone is, then I invite you to educate yourself and get to know their work before voting.
