This has come up in opchat a few times before in the months past to seemingly unanimous support. I was dragging my feet on getting this done but some recent developments have caused it to be beneficial to get this done in a quick manner.
The proposal, essentially, is that every site permanent ban that is active should also be enforced as a chat ban, as we currently do for cases such as plagiarism and harassment, unless operators object (in which case it will be discussed internally and a solution reached among the team, as currently happens with disputed bans).
Besides the ability to not enforce them, there will be zero operator discretion to these bans. Instead, they shall follow Disciplinary's decisions. Things such as a successful site appeal, for example, will automatically undo the chat ban as well.
Additionally, the application of these bans to chat may still be appealed directly to chat operators according to our normal appeal rules.
This is only from site to chat; it is far harder to get banned on site than chat and I would argue that by managing to do so, a user has proven they are unable to constructively engage with our community altogether.
I am interested in thoughts from members of chatstaff exclusively including half operators.
