Since the timer for this thread has expired, I am beginning a voting thread for the associated proposal, which is as follows:
Implement Collections
We begin the process of creating genre and thematic collections. The composition of this is still be to be determined, but the core premise is that genre collections create groups of works by categories such as "Drama," "Comedy," "Romance," with additional subcategories such as "Horror," "Action-Focused," "POV," etc.
Thematic collections are a different methodology, where works are collected by narrative or thematic elements. Think "Exploration," "Foundation Abuses in Power," "LGBT+ Characters," or "D-Class Perspective."
At present, as based on the discussion thread, these are staff-created collections, with the possibility for user created ones down the line (though not at present). Additionally, staff will be responsible for at least lightly populating the initial collections, though how many works this entails is still up for discussion. Other details, such as how many genres/themes, what timetable we want to establish for populating them, etc, are being left up to the future Collections Team Captain (should the proposal pass below).
Include SCPs in Collections Now
A topic of discussion in the thread was whether or not we should include SCPs in collections at present, potentially with some kind of limit based on ratios. This vote is simply to determine whether or not we should allow for the addition of SCPs right now. A no vote does not rule out their future inclusion, only that they should not be added at the beginning.
Create Collections Team
The organization of this team is still up in the air (as I imagine this is an admin decision), but the core proposal is that a team be created to develop, implement, and maintain collections on site. This would also entail eventually adding every extant tale into at least one collection. This may be a subteam under MAST, CO, or perhaps an entirely independent team, but as mentioned, would likely need to draft its own roster of staff so as not to overly burden existing teams. Whether or not this team is temporary is also yet to be determined-long term, after its main mission of adding all tales is finished, it could likely be absorbed into MAST or CO for general maintenance purposes.
Some people have made the point that there aren't enough details for people to vote on the creation of the team. I had left the specifics of this somewhat up in the air, as I wanted to leave this up to admin decisions, but I've included my own proposal for Collections Team responsibilities should it be created as an independent team. This is obviously subject to change, but is an initial layout of what the responsibilities of this team would be, subteam or no (since again, I would imagine that sub-team creation vs independent team creation is a task left for the admins/MAST and CO captains to hash out.)
The Collections Team is the branch of the SCP wiki concerned with creating and maintaining Collections for the site. Collections are groupings of site works based on the genre of their content, or based on their shared thematic elements. More specifically, the responsibilities of the Collections Team includes:
- Formulating new ideas for genres and themes that will make up new collections.
- Reading and subsequently adding every tale into at least one collection of each type.
- Fielding suggestions from users on new genres and themes for collections as necessary.
- Reviewing and approving new additions to specific collections during the staff-run phase.
- Contacting authors upon the addition of their existing works into a collection.
- Generating the layout for new collections and writing one-line descriptions of each work.
If you have any questions or concerns, please inquire in [insert collections chat here] or message a member of the team.
This voting thread is open to Operational Staff and above. Please vote yes or no using the format below.
