I'm a pretty big fan of this suggestion, and there was generally good reception for the idea in staff chat. Considering how vital I think the "wikiwalk" is to our site (and how handicapped Series 2 and 3 are for not having much of a wikiwalk), I would quite like a "wikiwalk" tag that could help encourage more of this.

Light also brought up tags for specific characters. This has come up before (along with tags for SCPs appearing in tales and other SCPs), and Crayne investigated it; it was moderately difficult to initially implement, but certainly do-able, especially going forward. I am also a big fan of this suggestion.

Thoughts?

(Obviously, especially thoughts from Crayne and the Technical Team.)

This is actually something I was working on (ish) a while back, though not using tags, but a link setup on the bottom of the page.

Obviously there's probably a better way to do this, but the idea is there. It would be a neat way to link to things that also link to other things, and so on.

A crosslink tag wouldn't serve any real purpose I think. If someone's fond of crosslinks merely leading them to a list of articles that do so still won't give them any indication of where those articles link or whether or not they'll like that content. Let's just say I'm not opposed, but I'm not seeing any real benefit either.

I'd much rather see a format adjustment like we talked about a while back, with crosslinked articles getting an extra section at the bottom labeled "Related project documentation" or something.

As for characters and tagging tales with them, I'm sure between us anqxyr and I could extract characters eligible for a tag according to certain criteria we'll need to specifiy (used x times by y amount of authors or something).

I wholeheartedly support the idea of character tags. I imagine criteria for being eligable would be similar to those for a canon or goi.

Crosslink tags… I like the idea of doing something like that to encourage wikiwalking, but I really don't think there's enough crosslinks, especially in the newer scips, that it would do anything other than show new readers a fairly limited pool of options (most of which would be, you guessed it, series one classics that already receive plenty of attention).

Maybe I'm missing something here, but why not just encourage crosslinking in the actual text? Is there a large need to find every crosslinking reference? Also, if this were to be a thing, I'd highly suggest just making the tags numerical for simplicity.

Retroactively tagging crosslinked articles would be a large task in itself as well. Just need to make sure that the need is worth the effort.

FWIW, if you define "crosslinking" as "having an actual link to another main-list skip", then this should be automatable (is that a word?) pretty easily.

For my part, I'd like to see more actual crosslinking happening, but I don't have strong feelings one way or the other about making a tag for it.

I'm guessing Lurk means that if something links to SCP-682, it'd get the tag 682. Something I am definitely not in favor of. But I may be misinterpreting.

No you interpreted right. I'm just throwing that out there if this were something that was going into effect. Unless there's a problem with numeric tags that I'm not seeing.
