New site member Charles Alweiz does not match any existing user name (account age 18 days, site membership 15 days) has recently exhibited some questionable responses to feedback:

Only problem is, for the way my mind works guides and essays are anything but helpful.

I know there's not much of a narrative as it's literally just a basic idea at the moment. I'm not going to have the entire thing thought up right away nor should you expect me to. I said nothing about costing less than fifty pounds, I said WEIGHING less than fifty pounds. Please read accurately and then I'll take your criticism fully.

(of note, the post in question stated "most items 50 pounds or less", and the reviewer is British)

Sorry. I'm just stressing out because I want to make a contribution but whenever I try to It's never good enough because apparently an idea is supposed to be fully fleshed out and thought of and everything. It's bull.

That keeps spam down, prevents forum flooding, and is more efficient for reviewers too when following the development of an idea." If you changed the idea slightly, it's considered a new version of the same concept.

This may be due to your behavior in the forums. It doesn't encourage people to want to help you.

So I don't know what I'm supposed to do because honestly this is starting to piss me off.

Keep in mind that everyone who helps out authors on the site does so out of their own time, for free, and for fun. Focus more on understanding how you can figure out the site's learning curve rather than getting caught up in the elements that make you upset.

The essays don't help me because that's just not how my mind works. Reading something about whatever it is people are having trouble with doesn't help me in the slightest if I don't know what I'm supposed to change.

I know people do it for free, I'm not an idiot. I'm an admin in quite a few different discord servers. I never said anything about it being their job or anything.

And then about two hours later:

I would like to suggest to the rest of the mods and admins and stuff a possibility of changing the ideas and brainstorm forum. At this point it's not what that is, as people expect you to post a fully fleshed out and decided narrative. That is not an idea or a concept, that is the beginnings of a final product. An idea or concept is just that: An idea. It's not fully fleshed out, nor is it tested. It is simply a thing someone came up with that they want to try.

It is unreasonable to expect someone to put time and effort into something they think is a good idea, only to tell them it's not a good idea. Additionally, when an idea IS in the current format, it tends to be too long, which then gets folded down by mods. It's confusing, and such especially for new members like myself.

I'm not saying this is what has to happen, it's merely a suggestion and/or request. It would honestly make my life a bit easier, since I want to make sure my ideas are good before fully deciding where I want to take them.

Other site members have no problem developing concepts per the guidelines and standards set by site reviewers. The issue here seems to be that you want the forums to operate based on your expectations of the words "idea" and "brainstorming", and don't wish to follow the existing process.

It is unreasonable to expect someone to put time and effort into something they think is a good idea, only to tell them it's not a good idea.

This happens all the time, in both hobbyist and professional writing. Writers then make edits to improve the material, or work on something else. This is what editors are for.

If you're really insistent on only putting effort into writing that is guaranteed to be successful, you may want to try to find a co-author willing to provide step-by-step guidance.

Additionally, when an idea IS in the current format, it tends to be too long, which then gets folded down by mods. It's confusing, and such especially for new members like myself.

Collapsible coding is used for any long post, not just concepts. There's nothing wrong with having a collapsible in a post.

The standard guideline for concepts is 500 words to encourage authors to focus on the best parts of their material and not get too caught up in extraneous details. At any rate, reviewers will still review concepts longer than 500 words.

Why should reviewers or staff do this for you when you have already made it difficult for reviewers to help you as a free favor?

I want to make sure my ideas are good before fully deciding where I want to take them.

The issue is, if you don't tell reviewers where you want to take an idea, they won't be able to tell you with any certainty whether your material will be good. Hence why reviewers ask you for further details. Otherwise the answer from an experienced reviewer is usually, "this could be good with more development, but I'd need to know more before I can say I like it".

The emphasis on making reviewers adhere to their own personal expectations for how feedback is given is not encouraging. It's also not great that they seem insistent that they can't be helped by guides (though judging by how they seem to view the guides, it seems like they haven't read that many?) and can't be expected to follow the same forum guidelines as every other author on the site.

This was some hours after their PMs to me, and I guess upon my not responding (I was at work) they just went and posted another thread assuming that it was okay.

Again, per the forum guidelines, a revision of a concept or draft is considered a new version of the same concept or draft, and as such new threads made for those revisions are considered repeats. You can argue that it's not a repeat per your own standards, but you will still be expected to follow the guidelines that every site member follows.

While the original post is what it is based off of, it's gone through a huge update to the point where it's not even the same thing anymore.

If it's an update, it's a repeat. If it's a completely unrelated new concept, it will count as a new idea.

And, so that I can go by the rules, how much longer to I have to wait to post this "repeat" you keep locking down.

14 days since the most recent post on your current thread. You would have 8 days to wait if you insist on making a new thread for this concept in development. At this point I don't know if a revocation would necessarily do much good, but for members of the Butterfly Squad… blacklist this one. You can, of course, provide feedback if you're feeling particularly generous. But I personally feel like this user needs to cool off and and approach community members in a less aggressive way before anyone can be expected to devote their time to helping them.

Hi there! I'm not looking for greenlights, and rather looking for something I haven't really seen in the Ideas and Brainstorming Forum: brainstorming.

So I'm currently writing up a full draft of an SCP I've yet to get greenlit just to settle my boredom, I won't post it without the lights. That, and I want it to be as good as it possibly can for my first one.

So some basic info on the SCP, for some background. Again, I'm not looking for greenlights quite yet. I'm not to that stage.

What I want to do, is include an addendum at the end of my SCP containing an account from the perspective of this MTF experiencing the first recorded instance of the addiction attracting effect of the SCP. The only problem is I'm not sure how I should structure it. That's why I'm here, so I can get some input and brainstorm how I should make this image in my head into a reality. Or as much of a reality it can be in text, at least.

Please let me know how you think I should go about this, in terms of structure and format. Let me worry about the story elements :)

Given that there's the same issue of "we can't really tell you how to structure an addendum if we don't know what kind of material you want to put in it", it doesn't quite look like they understood what they were already told by multiple reviewers. Either that or they're still expecting reviewers to generate material for them to use, hence the focus on "brainstorming" and refusal to present their own story elements.

At any rate, reviewers who may engage with this user, be mindful of the negative reactions they've already exhibited thus far.

Eh. Seems like they have not really learned any lesson here.

I'd argue for a revoke at this point if not an outright ban, if only for breaking the "don't be a dick" rule with respect to the reviewers.

While I do feel like the moderator in question was more aggressive than typically expected of the forums, I can see how they may have felt that the tone was necessary. This is due to your history of disregarding respondents on the forums and in chat, and the fact that your initial request seemed to imply that those previous incidents were the fault of the unpaid volunteer reviewers failing to give constructive criticism per your expectations.

If you are concerned about the thread having unrelated discussion content, I will allow you to make a new thread and I will lock the existing one. This is an exception to the usual forum guidelines—please note that as you repeatedly responded to closed staff posts, which is explicitly against the site rules, the next disciplinary infraction will result in a ban from the site. Staff have thus far been lenient by not revoking your site membership following your current behavior. I can't really argue for any reason not to enact a ban if this behavior continues.

Given that this is essentially an official warning, am making a disc thread.
