This is for anyone with op and half-op privileges in #17 or #19. In the wake of the discussion about dogpiling, we've been discussing what does and does not constitute backseat modding. This is something most (h)ops have their own ideas about, but it sometimes creates a very confusing environment for users. To make sure everyone has the same definition to work from, this thread is a thing.
Basically, users should be free to remind other users of the rules as long as they do so without assuming an authoritative stance or attitude. The difference therefore is in tone and choice of words:
This is fine: "Hey Chatty McChat, did you know you can't have 'scp' in your username? You might want to change that."
This isn't: "Hey Chatty McChat, I’m afraid you can't have 'scp' in your username, you're going to have to change that."
The latter is fine of course coming from (h)ops.
