Elogee Fishtruck does not match any existing user name has been going on a mass vandalism spree, adding psuedo-parenting to pages which looks like this.

I've removed and banned them for now, I think they meant well but went way, way far in the other direction. Mayday unclenicolini, TSAT and Leveritas are reverting all of their changes. I'm thinking at least a monthlong tempban, the only reason I'm not for an insta-perma is because I genuinely think they meant well and just screwed up in the worst possible way.

Agreeing here, this seems like they genuinely thought they were being helpful. Monthlong sounds good.

I'm fine with a month long. I initially suggested a shorter time, but I was not aware the scale of pages that were changed.

As others above have pointed out, this was clearly not done out of malice. Even if the user had not come into 17 to apologize, Fishtruck has a track record of being enthusiastic about improving Site Navigation (in admittedly not the best ways, but I digress) as seen here, here, and here. Given the fact that they understand and acknowledge what they did was wrong, I think maybe a shorter period of time than a month would be good for this user.

A week feels too short due to the sheer amount of unnecessary work thrust upon staff, but maybe two weeks is a sufficient slap on the wrist for this action. Good intentions, but as they say, there's a very particular road paved with such.

Same here on the two weeks.

I feel like we shouldn't be discouraging users from trying to improve navigation, but something of this scale needs to be run by staff first, and there need to be consequences for jumping the gun so severely.

I like two weeks.

It's the kind of enthusiasm I like to see in users. I'd just like to see some forethought and coordination with staff coupled with it. Hopefully a couple of weeks to cool off will help.

As some of you may know, Faminepulse pulled his images from the wiki a couple years ago when we started taking image licensing seriously. Since then, no effort has been made to check if any of them can be used.

Until now.

Elogee went through and sourced nearly all the pictures and Licensing has found more than a dozen of them were CC compatible. This was no mean feat, given that all of these images were photoshopped and were largely half a decade old.

Given this meritorious service performed on behalf of the community good, I am recommending that this ban be commuted to a warning on the disciplinary escalation chart and be lifted as soon as possible.

While I am not on Disciplinary, as Licensing Captain I can confirm both the value and the thanklessness of this work, and would ask that this be positively considered in his favor.

Not disc, but highly confident this user will be a net positive for the site with a little guidance on what they can and shouldn't attempt on their own. If we can impress on them that they can, and should, ask in 17 before beginning a new project. I also think commuting this to a warning is reasonable.

So we have a well-intentioned, enthusiastic user who happened to do something very well and efficiently, but had the wrong idea of what was useful? Not just that, but they went out of their way to apologise and did not create drama at all? Not disc, and part of the cleanup crew, but I'd offer them a place on the licensing team after it's confirmed that they'll ask if mass editing/tagging/parenting is okay. In the end, they meant well.

The reverting of the edits was absolutely valid, obviously. That said, this user has a lot of potential and would be very useful when instructed well.

My two cents, which admittedly aren't worth much.
