EDIT: TIMER
Due to timer screwups, the voting ends on Sunday Feb 17 at 6pm EST, and that is the time I intended. Not Monday at 5:59pm, not tonight at 11:59PM.
Winter Promotions, February 2019
Here we are. Promotion vote thread, Winter/Almost-Spring 2019.
These are votes of confidence. If you are unfamiliar or on the fence about someone, vote NO. Only vote yes if the candidate has your confidence and genuinely feels ready for promotion in your mind.
Please post even if you are abstaining from voting.
As a reminder, several months ago we established a new bit of policy: Staff may abstain from voting if it is in regards to a Junior Staff member moving to Operational Staff only. If more than one third of staff abstain on a user, and/or less than 60 per cent of voters say yes, this is treated as a no. I will be rounding down.
We have a few bids for users to be promoted from Operational Staff to Moderator this time around. While one user was suggested from Mod to Admin, and a few staff members under Admin were concerned about Admin manpower levels, Administrators jointly agreed that at this time, we do not have any need for new administrators.
An Experiment - Staff Interviews.
This time around, staff members Taylor_Itkin does not match any existing user name and Tretter does not match any existing user name interviewed our promo candidates prior to this thread being put up. I implore all staff to read these. These interview questions and answers can be found in a .rem in Staff Chat; check “?promotions”.
This promotion vote will end in:
6PM EST on the 18th 17th.
Operational Staff Voting:
This is an open vote for all staff members.

Please read the commentary provided in order to help your judgement regarding these staff. If you feel they have displayed readiness, vote yes. If they are not ready, vote no; please explain your reasoning.

Junior Staff Member | Alces_alces does not match any existing user name |
Review | I'm admittedly not 100% certain on Alces due to activity levels and I don't want to negatively impact her IRL commitments; that said, I've heard excellent accounts of her demeanor and staff work so I'm comfortable putting her name up this round. She's consistently both a solid reviewer: http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-10011065/my-first-scp#post-4124289 / http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-10019405/scp-critique#post-4125303 and an excellent forum caretaker (JS post here where she explains a site guideline: http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-10025708/my-very-first-scp-looking-for-feedback#post-4125356) One of her strengths is being able to go through an error-ridden draft fairly efficiently, addressing a balance of simple errors and overarching problems without getting too caught up in trying to address everything. I could see her potentially leading crit seminars in the future, if she likes. |

Team Captain: | DrMagnus |
Junior Staff Member | Croquembouche |
Review | Croquembouche not only cleaned up most of the staff tools page on his own, he also liased with the JP branch in order to get the info box project up and running. He's detail oriented, completes projects without hovering, and is an invaluable asset to the technical team. I also appreciate his input for decisions in the technical process, and believe he not only earned the recognition, but would be a positive impact on our decision making process. |

Junior Staff Member | Gabriel Jade |
Review | Steady, reliable, and with a good sense of time, Gabe is great at providing quality feedback: http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-10047652/scp-4082:the-infinity-hat#post-4129774 / http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-10086564/posted-new-scp-draft:familiar-yet-different#post-4137289 and making sure to not get burned out. He's able to balance his reviewing with his own writing, and I feel like he's a good example for all reviewers since he's very level-headed and knowledgeable. Good mentor for up-and-coming site readers too, if he's inclined, due to how well-received his work is and how respected he is on the site as an author. |

Junior Staff Member | Shanor |
Review | Again, admittedly a little bit early on the promotion, but given the sheer amount of work that Shanor does, I think it's justified—for awhile, Shanor was handling the Ideas and Brainstorming almost entirely by himself; he's since taken some time to work on an essay explaining his personal approach to critiquing ideas. His vigilance when it comes to addressing problematic feedback is very helpful; he will also provide feedback of his own when he addresses misleading advice: http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-10126502/i-m-new-and-i-want-to-write-a-scp#post-4136456 He's also improved a lot from when he first joined the site; he's very forthright when it comes to new site members and will explain policy/guidelines to them, as well as providing information on avenues of contact should they be dissatisfied with his behavior as a staff member: http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-9992418/turn-around-mr-johnson#post-4122005 I do think sometimes he may be a little hasty in terms of responses to problematic behavior, but he always double-checks his understanding of how staff handle certain cases with me and sends me regular reports on Ideas forum activity to address. |

Junior Staff Member | The Great Hippo |
Review | Hippo is one of our most talented reviewers! He's great with all kinds of niche aspects of the Foundation-verse and specific types of drafts: http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-10106772/scp-4318:sarkic-artifact as well as conceptual review: http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-10027710/scp-idea-revenant-in-black-robes He's thorough but not overwhelming in his approach, and his level of experience writing his own successful works makes him a great role model for new authors in particular. |

Junior Staff Member: | TSATPWTCOTTTADC |
Review: | TSAT has made himself indispensable on IO team. He's the most active out of all the reddit mods, has provided good ideas and counsel in moments of adversity, and has used his coding prowess to implement impressive projects such as the scrolling banner and an in progress replacement for the twitter article posting bot. He's more than earned a spot on op staff, especially since he's also provided help to other teams simultaneously. |
Team Name: | Community Outreach |
Team Captain: | A Random Day, ProcyonLotor |
Junior Staff Member | TSATPWTCOTTTADC |
Review | TSAT is invaluable to Community Outreach and staff as a whole. He's proven his ability to handle work consistently and effectively. TSAT's biggest contribution to CO has been sourcing virtually all of the art for the SCP Site News over the past year. In addition to that, he reverts troll edits, alerts staff to improper deletions, processed data for the Site Survey, helped clean up the tag guide, and then some. TSAT's ubiquity, however, is also his biggest weakness. He does a lot of grunt work and has a lot of pans in a lot of fires, which makes burnout a very real concern. As long as TSAT paces himself, ProcyonLotor and I have full confidence in his ability to contribute to staff. A full detailing of TSAT's responsibilities and work ethic can be found here. |
Team Name: | Wikiwalk |
Team Captain: | Jacob Conwell |
Junior Staff Member | stormbreath |
Review | During our work on List III for Wikiwalk, stormbreath was my most dependable Wikiwalk staff member, going as far as to tackle a full 1/3rd of the content and a solid chunk of List II. Additionally, I found them to be invaluable in bouncing ideas off of with respect to viable crosslinks. As an Operational staff member, I have no doubt they will be a valuable asset to the wiki as a whole, as well as their replacement team for when Wikiwalk has concluded. Examples of their best work for Wikiwalk, can be found at the following links, as well as reasoning as to why they are good crosslinks: SCP-1721 to SCP-2305 and SCP-1658 to SCP-1909 and SCP-911 |

Junior Staff Member | Uncle Nicolini |
Review | Nico is extremely talented and possesses a variety of different skills, both coding and critique. He's regularly helping out in the forums and can analyze both tales: http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-10131333/out-of-all-the-people-in-site-19-it-had-to-be-you and SCP articles: http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-10151620/conjoining-thread:the-movie:the-draft of all kinds of quality/experience levels. He's extremely patient, a pleasure to work with, and is good at handling different kinds of projects, like co-running the Cliche Contest and writing up the Butterfly Squad Roster. |
Team Name: | Community Outreach |
Team Captain: | A Random Day, ProcyonLotor |
Junior Staff Member | Uncle Nicolini |
Review | Uncle Nicolini is a highly reliable and extremely versatile member of Community Outreach. Alongside TSAT and Varaxous, he is one of the three primary contributors to SCP Site News since its rebooting. Nicolini has has worked on a variety of projects to make the site more accessible: from designing the Forum Crit Contact Listing, to updating and cleaning the Tag Guide, to designing hubs for various site collections such as Gears Day and Alexylva University. He's also no slouch at doing grunt work: he worked with Varaxous, UraniumEmpire, and MrPines to relocalize almost 500 image files and free up 20% of the wiki's image space. However, Nicolini's biggest potential weakness is his conduct. He tends to act in a rather silly or goofy manner, and it is mine and Procyon's concern that this could impair his judgment as Operational Staff or — like Joreth — prevent him from being as good at Operational Staff as he could be. As long as Nicolini separates his work from his play, ProcyonLotor and I have full confidence in his versatility and enthusiasm as a member of Operational Staff. A full listing of Nicolini's responsibilities and completed projects can be found here. |
Team Name: | Community Outreach |
Team Captain: | A Random Day, ProcyonLotor |
Junior Staff Member | UraniumEmpire |
Review | UraniumEmpire is, much like UncleNicolini, a versatile member of Community Outreach who is capable of not only doing grunt work consistently, but doing it well. She is the de facto leader of the Introductions Team, finding time to mentor the Junior Staff -9Volt- and DrAnnoyingDog on Introductions while also fitting in five to seven introductions per week. She worked with Uncle Nicolini, Varaxous, and MrPines to relocalize almost 500 image files and free up 20% of the wiki's image space. However UraniumEmpire's biggest weakness is her lack of initiative. While she can handle any task thrown at her, she generally has to be directed to do so and, apart from a few pending contests, has generally not taken the initiative to work on any potential CO projects. ProcyonLotor and I believe that with more experience and initiative, she could easily become a moderator. A full listing of UraniumEmpire's responsibilities and completed projects can be found here. |

To Moderator:
This is a closed vote, only open to Moderators and Administrators.
Below is a pair of suggestions regarding OPERATIONAL STAFF who Team Captains have nominated to be voted upwards to MODERATOR. Please read the commentary provided by Team Captains in order to help your judgement regarding these staff. If you feel they have displayed readiness, vote yes. If they are not ready, vote no; please explain your reasoning.
Team Name: | Community Outreach |
Team Captain: | A Random Day, ProcyonLotor |
Operational Staff Member | Varaxous |
Contributions to the Wiki and teams: | http://sandbox.scp-wiki.net/varaxous |
Why they should be Mod: | Varaxous is, simply put, almost everything we need in a moderator. They've proven themselves to be a capable and competent leader, having single-handedly run the SCP Site News team for almost a year now while expanding the scope and presentation of the news. They took the initiative to organize, lead, and then do grunt work on a four-man team that moved almost 500 files offsite to free up more than 750 MB of site filespace. They've also spearheaded and implemented QOL improvements for staff such as the Improper Deletions category of Lowest Rated Pages. Varaxous is capable of everything from grunt work to high-level leadership while being able to suggest and enact both high-level and QOL changes, all of which are qualities we prize in our moderators. Her biggest weakness, however, is her invisibility outside Community Outreach. ProcyonLotor and I would like her to be a little more visible in staff discussion, since the ideal mod candidate takes an active interest in discussing and shaping policy. However, I am of the opinion that the promotion will give her the confidence to make the calls that we know she's capable of. |

Vote YES or NO. Someone who you are ambivalent to should not receive your vote of confidence for staff. If you don't know who someone is, then I invite you to educate yourself and get to know their work before voting.
