Eh. I don't like how he did it, but I don't really care at this point. When it comes down to it, though, nyehcat has basically be entirely inactive for the last two years on the site, with a couple of points of sudden activity. I'm not inclined to ban someone who isn't really active just to be 'morally' right.

However, the fact that someone who once told jokes about hentai comics and was universally lampooned by most staff at the time has managed to acclimate to the site, be a normal (sometimes productive) person, and participate without being overly disruptive gives me hope for humanity.

The only things that've happened were minor enough to be completely irrelevant by now. I don't think there's any reason to enact a ban because his alter-ego was banned years ago and he's since come back and been less derpy.

Have we taken any disciplinary action again nyehcat in the past? I know we take ban evasion pretty seriously, but if a user is making a noted effort to improve their behaviour and act as a functioning member of the community, I don't necessarily think we should punish that user.

As a bit of a preface, I want to say that I was originally going to say something along these lines for almost 2 years, but I kept chickening out at the last minute. And now, I've decided enough is enough.

I'm drmilton.

Or rather, I was.

I'm not going to be around the bush. I was a dumb fifteen year old who thought that he was a real riot, barely read any of the actual articles, and was unaware that the site culture had changed from the mixture of seriousness and pop culture-referencing silliness that I had heard about when I thought about joining all those years ago. Just remembering the stuff I had edited into collabs and the things I'd written (especially that godawful 682 destruction story) makes me shudder.

Why am I saying all of this now? I feel like after all of these years, I've grown up a bit, and I should take some responsibility for my past dumbassery.

But therein lies the problem. All of these years I've technically been ban-evading (even though I've deactivated the drmilton username a long time ago), and I don't know if me saying "I'm sorry I was an idiot a long time ago on a different account" is going to really change that fact.

If you guys are willing to let bygones be bygones, I'll be fine with that, not to mention relieved.

But if not, I'll also understand, and I'll transfer ownership of my sole tale to Roget.

Either way, I felt like I had to let someone know about this, or it'd continue to eat up in my conscious.

IIRC, nyehcat was basically spamming the site with a ton of bad articles, and was not taking feedback. Rather than ban him for spamming, I decided to be lenient and ask him to spend a year lurking before he submits more articles.

This is the other thing I was getting to.

I'm assuming that Aelanna was just logging things to eventually bring it to the attention of ops. This is useful, because it provides context in case something happens later (or many small things add up to one big whole).

However, the manner in which it's being done is confusing. I was confused too.

So Aelanna, please do provide further context and please do contact an op of your choice (as well as posting, if you like) in the future. There's no reason an op can't be told about it before anything actually needs to be done.

So, in other words, salvagebar was trying to create drama, but not in any serious way (he intended it as a joke, but obviously it didn't come off that way). This isn't against our rules, actually, per Waxx's recent clarifications, so long as salvagebar doesn't go further or keep at this kind of thing.

I can see quite clearly that nyehcat was backseat modding and policing other users. Nyehcat seems bound and determined to step on Aelanna's toes. If this was just one incident, I wouldn't care (stepping on toes isn't against the rules by itself either, and… well, honestly, many users backseat mod a tiny bit). However, as this thread demonstrates, this is a pattern of behavior. This tells me nyehcat is trying to cause trouble.

I don't want to see nyehcat doing this again. I'd like to officially request that he stop trying to affect how other people tag or use Nala or any of the site functions that fall under Aelanna's purview, because he's using this to troublemake, and he demonstrably has absolutely no clue what he's talking about in any of those areas and he's annoying the people who do. (He was wrong that salvagebar was abusing Nala, whether or not salvagebar was trying to cause drama.)

I don't care what his intentions are or not, this is what is happening. And if he does not lay off, then I'd like to inform him that there may be disciplinary action (at staff discretion, since we're not telling him to never talk to Aelanna again or anything, as I feel that's going too far; we all have to deal with annoyances in the course of being part of this community, so simply annoying someone isn't sufficient).

However, I'll wait a bit for other ops to chime in, in case there's disagreement.

(Also, if there is consensus, Roget, you can pass it on if you like, as you were already talking to him. Otherwise, I can.)

Look Aelanna I'm gonna be frank but I have no idea what you're trying to achieve. This is kind of the second time within a few days you posted logs with no context or explanation, especially since you're not an OP yourself. If you're log-keeping without intent to contact nyehcat or an OP about the issue when you post it here, then I believe that can be done at your own time and held on your own records until such a time that you have enough evidence to explain his rule-breaking behavior and then provide logs to back it up.

However, there could be another option that you are attempting to garner attention to the issue. This is so roundabout as to be borderline passive aggressive, have you contacted an OP with the logs and about this issue? If yes, and the OP presumably either didn't find it suitable for posting or the issue was resolved, why are you posting it anyways? Or, if you are posting because an OP can't, why not state as such? Have you contacted nyehcat about his behavior if you find it problematic? If you have, why didn't you mention that either? There is so little explanation that what you are attempting to do that I actually have no idea what you want the OPs to do about this situation.

I'm trying to look for an explanation to justify these posts on the forums. A member isn't getting disciplined in them. An OP isn't being talked to about it. I'm even unsure if it's breaking the rules beyond something so small that it can be fixed just by talking to someone instead of repeatedly posting on the forums with vague "don't mind me", but if you truly wished to be not minded, why are you posting on 05? I really don't understand, perhaps because I lack perception, perhaps because I am merely so ignorant of the situation that this is all that needed to be said. But if that were the case, I still question why there couldn't be context given, unless another OP was meant to post here to explain it and somehow that never happened.

Please, if you're going to post logs, at least provide context or explanation or what you want. Otherwise misinterpretations can be construed and it may hamper whatever you're trying to do.

P.S. I apologize if I come off as overly harsh or flippant at any point in this post. I'm just really confused.

e: Actually, the person who did wrong in the log Soulless posted is salvagebar. He was artificially creating drama by sending out of context .tells to Djoric and Clef. That's actually against the rules.

I don't see anything notable about the "don't mess with nala bit", I've seen just about every denizen of 19 say that and it ain't against the rules. I think you were a bit harsh with him just saying "x article needs tags", albeit understandably given his previous messing with tags.

I disagree. If nyehcat is messing around with tags after being told not to by Aelanna, who is in charge of tags, then she should be informing us, meaning this is the correct thing to do.

This comment in particular stands out to me. Aelanna is in charge of tags. She told nyehcat not to touch them, and not out of any grudge, but because he was repeatedly messing them up. And then he decided that he was going to ignore that because he disapproves of Aelanna's behavior? No. No, that's not how this works.

Aelanna is inactive as staff, but in her role as person-in-charge-of-tags, she has authority not from being staff but from administrators putting her in charge of tags. That means she does have the authority to tell someone to stop tagging others' articles (grey area if it's their own article) and if they do not, they can be subject to disciplinary action.

If he continues fucking up tags after promising not to touch them, then that merits an official warning at least.

e: Actually where did Clef order him not to write for a year? The more I think on that, the more I realize that that is a pretty shitty order. Admins of creative writing sites really ought not to be telling people they can't write.

FWIW I do agree with this, because a year is much too extreme, but it seems that this was never enforced anyway.

I gotta side with Aelanna on this one. I've seen lots of people try to help with tagging and mess it up in one way or another, and when I ask them to please not tag other people's articles (for the exact reason Aelanna's said), but rather leave it to people much more familiar with the system, they usually say "okay", and move on. No fuss, no muss, no hard feelings.

As Aelanna said, the problem isn't that nyehcat was mistagging articles (although that's annoying, it's correctible), but rather that they were repeatedly told "stop, you're not helping" and continued anyway. While not rising to the level of needing disciplinary action YET, this kind of behavior and disregard IS something we should be keeping an eye on.

By "kids occasionally messing up on tags", I presume you mean, "kids who cluelessly tag things, are told not to, and comply". No, that's not an issue. The issue at hand is someone who cluelessly does something, is told repeatedly why they shouldn't and why it's disruptive and makes someone else's job harder, has promised not to, and repeatedly does it anyways.

If that is really something that is a non-issue, then delete this thread. I don't care to say any more on the matter.

Eh, this seems like making a thread on someone just because we don't like them. Especially with the mentioning of the person being a snowflake and saying they didn't follow an unofficial(and kinda bullshit-y) order. I will agree that nyehcat isn't really my favorite person, but he doesn't really merit a thread. To me, he's just sort of derping in the background of 19.

The mis-tagging thing I can understand as annoying, but I saw him promise in chat that he wouldn't go in and tag anymore, so the matter seemed resolved at that time.

e: Actually where did Clef order him not to write for a year? The more I think on that, the more I realize that that is a pretty shitty order. Admins of creative writing sites really ought not to be telling people they can't write.

Has been mis-tagging articles, at least 3 in the last week or two. I told him politely and directly that it was annoying because it removed the pages from watchlists, which makes others' jobs more difficult, but he kept doing it anyways.

I can't seem to find a previous thread on him; this is the guy that was informally ordered by Clef to not write for a year and a day due to his attitude and behavior in chat. Would advise keeping an eye on him.

Edit: Clarification — This is a user with a history of attitude problems, essentially that of a grade-A snowflake; he doesn't listen to anyone be it polite suggestion or authoritative order, and his recent pattern of behavior is cause for worry. His refusal to accept any kind of negative feedback on his first draft is what resulted in Clef giving him an — admittedly unorthodox — order to not write for a year. It also bears note that he didn't follow that order.
