If he doesn't do it again, what's the worry?

And this is why I'm not advocating punitive actions at this time. I just wanted other Staff to know that I had issued a warning, and why, for future reference.

Lyon's done some more edits since they posted the new version, but taking a look at the version that was reposted and comparing to what I remember of the first go-round, the only differences were that in the reposted version, sometimes notes/messages were retrieved (since edited out) and the old version sometimes retrieved pages from The Tempest when they drilled Miranda.

Basically, I felt that the changes made were fairly minor ones that could've/should've been done on the original posting, and Lyon has even removed the biggest changes in his current edits. If it had been a major or total rewrite, I wouldn't've said anything; but this really did feel like a "erase downvotes" situation, even if Lyon didn't intend it as such.

I don't feel wee should. At the very least he should be let aware that this will get him a few side-glances and looks sketchy, even if he never intended it to be. If he doesn't do it again, what's the worry?

I strongly disagree that we should ever punish for this IF it's a major revision. The user will have to bear the risk that we agree with them that it's a major revision. (Although perhaps we could stand to lay down some guidelines…)

But the fact is, if it was successful, then that proves in and of itself that the revision was a sufficiently major revision. -15 to +4 says major revision to me, even if it still ultimately fails.

Awkward question: Should we retract his warning?

I feel that if the edits are significant enough to go from a negative to successful, it isn't necessarily bad enough for punishment. A warning would suffice here methinks. If it becomes a pattern then we can get concerned.

I don't really want to slap him for this. Eric is right. If it's a small, simple edit, then no. But an edit that was significant enough to completely change people's opinions…? I'm not terribly against that.

I think it depends on how major a revision it was.

A few minor edits — bad.
Major revision or complete rewrite — I don't see why not; I've done it myself once I knew what I wanted to change.

They apparently made some revisions off-site, deleted the original and immediately reposted the new version in the same slot in an effort to clear out downvotes and get a fresh start on the new version. Successfully, too. It's at +4 as I write this.

I've already warned them that this is a significant no-no and they're now on notice. If an Admin feels further action is warranted at this time, feel free to chime in.
