I was inquiring of him separately before I saw this thread. He was only doing buttons with the logo on it. Since far2 made that logo and posted it on the forums, it was covered by CC. So I gave him the info he would need to be able to attribute and license properly. He was appreciative, and while I didn't get any followup from him I feel it likely that he did as I recommended.

But agree with others in this thread in that I hope he did not present himself as any kind of official representative.

Scan speaks truth:

to be clear, buttons are fine, presenting themself anything but a well-meaning fan is not fine.

By all means, hand out the buttons. Publicity is fun. Getting people intrigued is fun. Just, please, don't make yourself out to be either our official representative or Valve's.

As long as he's giving stuff away for free, well, I don't see why not. But not gonna give him any legitimacy.

Also, although I didn't realize it until Kens pointed it out in chat, New York Comic Con is going on right now. As in, today (Oct 14) is the last day. So this looks like a case of trying to get permission after the fact, unless they're talking about NEXT year.

Eh. This guy doesn't sound legitimate enough to make me feel comfortable with us doing business with him.

Unless he can give solid evidence that he's who he says he is, knows what he's doing, and is actually going to follow through, I'd say that we avoid associating with this person at all. I guess we can't stop him from doing things that don't violate CC, but I don't really want them representing us in any fashion.

Maybe I'm just biased because of the run-on paragraph and the odd syntax, but hey, if that's how they do business, it's gonna reflect on them.

EDIT: to be clear, buttons are fine, presenting themself anything but a well-meaning fan is not fine.

I'll contact him, find out more about what he's planning.

So long as he isn't representing himself as a member of staff, and he isn't selling anything, I'm okay with it.

If he /is/ selling it, I'll make sure he understands the full implications of the CC license.

I'm obliged to give you full information, I am aware that the SCP foundation wiki, and The 3rd party creators of the SCP Containment breach games are not one of a kind, and of course I got permission from both before supporting, It was basically handing out fliers and putting up posters to give the games more popularity, I have not done anything directly with the SCP foundation wiki because I did not want to take it upon myself to do something and make a mistake. I had a friend of mine make a couple of hundreds of pins with the SCP foundation Symbol on it, whether you would like me to distribute these is totally under the discretion of any figure of authority within the SCP foundation, if you have the authority to allow me to do so, then so be it. And as for my relation to valve, I am related to Arsenio Navarro, he makes the merchandise and is also in charge of the anything that has to do with law cases and accounting, and I do not directly represent them during Comic Con, but I am an active contributor to their booth and I lend a hand when able, My primary booths are the Midtown Comics booth, of whom is a client of mine, and the Rooster teeth booth, of which I have external ties to which is of no importance and with all due respect is nobodies business except for my benefactors. As far as everything else goes, I'm sure my friends at Comic Con will be happy to let loose and hand out promotional items to represent the SCP foundation if allowed. Thank you for your time.
If there is anything else you need you can reach me at [number removed]
- The Black Mesa Team

Then an immediate second response:

Oh and excuse me for neglecting to mention who I work for, I work for an accounting firm owned by my father, he is the accountant for many of the companies running booths at Comic Con.

http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-573872/comic-con-new-york-2012

As of this post, this is literally the only contribution that this user has made to any part of wikidot. The way this is worded sounds… sketchy to me, particularly since it sounds like they're planning on pimping the various SCP stuff ANYWAY and just want one of us there to lend legitimacy. I'm sending them a PM for more details.

Edit: This is what I sent them:

Hi there. I'm one of the Senior Staff and have a few questions for you regarding the Comic Con post you made in the forums.

First, your username and icon obviously seem to imply that you're involved with Valve in some way. Is this the case or are you just a fan of theirs? If you're not representing Valve, what company are you representing?

Second, you imply that the SCP Containment Breach people will be there. You are aware that they are not officially connected to or endorsed by us, yes? We generally like what they've done, but they are an independent project. You would need to contact them separately from us if you want them to hook up with you at CCNY.

Third, what exactly do you mean by "contributing to a booth"?

Thanks for getting back to me.
-Drewbear
