A user by the name of Apollo_111 is attempting to create an app with all of the current articles on it. He's only released the first 99 SCPs as an example, since he wants to do it right by the wiki. I've been in contact with him and he's willing to work something out to keep things kosher.

I'm currently in the middle of midterms/term papers, and by virtue of being inactive shouldn't be using my senior staff position anyway, so would anyone be willing/able to help with this regard?

Also, in case Apollo_111 is reading this, you're not in trouble! This is just a thread where we can post derivative works and make sure we keep everything good to go.

Thank you so much for the encouraging words, and for helping me out with the attribution. At the moment I'm getting the film ready for distribution, and as such I need to get the proper names of several contributors for the credits. Once that's done, I'll be sure to include the attribution necessary. in the meantime, I'll just leave the lower resolution copy of the film on youtube to gauge audience reaction, but I've put up an annotation and a link to the license in the description. Let me know if that's satisfactory.

I took a look and the license is now in the description of the video, so I sent him the following reply:

The attribution on the video looks good for now & if you're going to put it in the final cut, then I think we're all good. Please let us know if/when you put the final cut up; I'd enjoy seeing it.

That said, they are failing hard on the proper attribution & copyright. The mention in the credits that it's based on "the short story 'SCP-426' by [Flah's real name]", but don't include a link to the wiki OR the CC license. In the YouTube description, they include a link to 426, but, again, don't include the CC license. I plan on making a comment on the video when I get home (I have incredible difficulty writing stuff on my phone), but I have made a comment on the forum thread that someone needs to get in contact with me.

That said, there are a few attribution and CC license problems that I noticed that need to be taken care of. I saw that you credited the author of SCP-426 in the credits, which is good, but our CC license requires that you provide a link to both the original work AND port the same CC license over to your work. I did see that you put a link to 426 in the video description, but you didn't put a link to the CC license, and additionally, my understanding is that the links would need to be tightly bound to the derivative work, which in this case would be most readily accomplished by including them in the credits. This is so that, should you show this at non-online venues (and I could easily see it doing well on the film festival circuit), the correct attribution and CC license info will still be attached & available.

However, the ones which reference specific works have the same text (ex: why would you want a 110 Montauk shirt); our Licensing Guide says that things involving a specific article need to attribute that article directly.

As a side note, feel proud, moose. They used 1000 as one of their examples. :-p

I'm thinking someone who has an apple device can check these out and see if they're CC or not.

Your SCP Database Google Play app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.unidev.scpdatabase) recently came to our attention. I'm glad that you enjoy our work enough to want to share it, and am NOT telling you to pull the app. However, the nature of our Creative Commons license (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/) requires that you provide links back to the original material, as well as assuming the same CC license. If you're unfamiliar with this specific flavor of Creative Commons, it basically boils down to that anyone is allowed to make derivative works of the your app, including reverse-engineering the coding and adapting it to their own purposes, so long as they link back to the source material and assume the same CC license.

If you wish to keep the app up (and again, we're not telling you to remove it), please push through an update so as to include the CC license and links back to each page that you reference. Unfortunately, if you don't do this, we will have to ask Google to remove the app as violating copyright until such time as the linkbacks and license are included, at which point we would let Google know that our copyright concerns were addressed and remove the complaint.

Actually just got a pm from Crayne:

Pretty sure it's not just linking to the articles.At least, not to the live articles. SCP-1125 was recently edited by me torreplace amnesiacs with amnestics, but the app still shows the former.

So apparently while it does need an internet connection to run, it isn't just linking to live versions of the articles.

Their description directly references the wiki, but they should probably clarify it to be completely in the clear.

They just posted on Reddit too, so I left a comment reminding them about attribution. I'll be checking back periodically to make sure they've attributed correctly, as well as helping them do it with as little hassle as possible.

Also, I'd wear some of those shirts in a heartbeat.

Each shirt on the list has a link to state it is under creative commons and links to the source material on its page, the merchant had contacted me back when I was active to ask what he needed to do, and he's doing it.

Technically this should go in a subjected titled Regarding Properly Attributed Merchandise (which, if you are dyslexic radical enough, can be shortened to PRAM) but I know this page is going to cross the attention of others at some point.

Oh, yes, I'm quite aware of it. Suede contacted me directly earlier this year and I gave him permission to go ahead with the adaptation, along with filling him in on the Creative Commons licence.
