I think fan art is always neat, even with it's really bad. People are going to do stuff off the site, if we like it or not. I think the best idea would be to encouage them to write and work on the site, generate whatever art they want, and wait and see. rather then "bless" them off the bat, see what it is they do first, then go from there.

I replied to him, both asking for more information, and asking why not encourage people to join the real foundation. Have not heard back. But, after the fun we had on DA saturday night, I'm not sure encouraging them is a good idea.

(One guy didn't believe I was Bright, because Bright is a nicer person….)

I agree with EchoFourDelta. I've always liked art, and I think this could bring in more people to the SCP, and maybe even help hasten our own migration.

Though… what do you think about it Bright?

So they want to build a separate SCP community, post things away from the wiki and the review process that maintains quality and makes the wiki worth reading, credit the admins for all works on the wiki, and…

would be the best setting to procreate the final product

I'd like to talk directly with hyrdrick and explain why this is a bad idea. I think I can make him realize this.

I see no value to them running their own community. We can't stop them, but by no means do I see it as necessary for us to endorse them. If they want to write stuff they can join same as anyone else, if they want to make art and have a community that's great, but I see no reason to give them special permissions or something.

Like I said in chat, I think we should treat them the way we treat the MC&D project run by the SA people: aloof tolerance. They do what they want with ideas, concepts, and groups created here; we don't do anything about it, in that CC wouldn't let us anyway, but we don't recognize or acknowledge them as a group either. If they come to the wiki trying to post, they get held to the same standards as everyone else.

Invite them over. We've already got a wing of the site set up for illustrations, pictures, etc. If they're about "bringing the community together under one roof" then let them know we've got plenty of room under our ceiling. People want to start posting artwork or something… have the content up for staff review.

I am writing to you to ask for permission to use the wiki and it's information to create a DeviantArt open source horror project based on the SCP Foundation, it's objects in containment and activities which will give our audience a reading session to remember and to make them look into the SCP Foundation's website in more detail. Our main aim is to bring in writers and illustrators of all talents into one community and we thought that the SCP World would be the best setting to procreate the final product.
