Five promotions passed and announced. I propose a new rule, that used to be an old rule. Anyone who seeks a promotion, needs to have two people, approved by the rest of staff, to take their place.

I would say that Bland is actually very helpful and does give good criticism. But something about him makes me wary of putting him in a position of responsibility. I get this vibe that his behavior is very obsessive, and I don't trust that.

Has he really not written any pieces? Either way, I'd vote no. And this is me, the doofus who would accept just about anyone else that is suggested above without thinking about it hard enough.

I'm not normally a huge stickler on volume of authorship, but… I don't think Bland's actually created a page on the Wiki, or edited for anything more than grammar and link-fixing. Also, he doesn't seem to have a whole lot in the way of constructive criticism (not to say that the criticism he does give isn't good, but there's really not many instances of it, nor any that are significantly in-depth).

He's certainly useful and talented, but I don't see him as staff given the contributions he currently makes. I'd keep an eye on him, see if he gets more involved in the writing side of things.

EDIT: He's not in chat much either, at least that I've seen. It's obviously not mandatory for staff to be in chat, but it would certainly help.

Seems pretty clear to me. Waxx has said before that he was tired of the frequent emote stuff in 19; it's a handful of users responsible for a good 80% of it, and we were supposed to cut down on it. Not all of us seem to recall that, though, which is understandable, as it's been a while.

With the other stuff, again, I don't think 19 is really the place for it. Once more, I'm not defending it, but he did drop the topic in 19 when asked.

If you wanna press him about making a blood oath in the admin room that it won't happen any more, he'd gladly do so.

That I can. First you've got the unwarranted kicking, there's the targeting certain users for assorted threats and harassment, and the attitude towards anyone who admits to being in any way different from the norm, including a hell of a lot of insensitivity towards gender/whatever and mental health issues. And I recall asking him to tone down the gender/sexuality thing last night to fuckall results.

I'm fairly sure that, if he was told the mod position came with the requirement the gender/sexuality stuff be dialed down, he'd do so. Or he'd do so if he was just asked. He can be harsh, but he's one of the most reasonable people we've got.

That said, 19 really isn't the place for people to be discussing their sexuality. Don't misinterpret me as defending the crassness, but there are other channels for such topics, and I imagine the majority of the channel's populace doesn't give a flying fuck about which side(s) you're batting for. I digress.

I'm not sure what would qualify as poor behavior in 19. Can you elaborate?

PHOTO - Tapered, intelligent, well written and powered by the souls of saints…Literally. If you look closely at the photographs she's got mother teresa's SHRIEKING GHOST in her eyes. Eternally wailing and damned. In addition to those fine qualities, she's got a solid head on her shoulders, has been around long enough to have a firm grasp of both the older methods of the site and the newer ones, and is a BOSS. I'm highly confident in her judgment and her ability to handle matters with finality. A solid yes to her adminship.

ECHO - Echo, let me start off by saying, is a bro. THE BROLIEST of bros. He's a great guy, gives good criticism. HOWEVER, the position of Mod lends a certain amount of authority. Mods, in my view, speak for the site, and therefore have an effect on the perception of the site above and beyond what Senior Staff or normal users do. Echo holds opinions and viewpoints that would have a negative impact on what people think of the staff, and a tendency to not back down from talking about them. Specifically gender/sexuality issues. I'm not saying he's not effective senior staff, but I am saying I'm going to vote against him being made Mod, unless he can guarantee not discussing certain issues.

As for the rest, I'm abstaining, because I really can only speak for Photo's effectiveness, and my concerns about Echo.

Yes on Photosynthetic. She's smart and, as said before, really damn approachable. She's not likely to let personal bias affect adminship.

Yes on Scantron, providing we can drag him from RPs. Of course, I see him posting multiple pending deletion votes on the Other Chatroom, at least twice a week, which tells me he pays attention to the wiki more than we think. He's a solid member.

Yes to Nusquam, I suppose. He's intelligent, good at criticism, and sticks by his opinions.

Not sure about E4D. Nothing personal, I just can't really decide if I want him to be a mod or not.

Not sure about Moose, either. He's busy IRL and I don't want to swamp him with various duties on the occasions he's able to visit the wiki. But at the same time, he's extremely dedicated when he is online, and a great writer.

Yes to Rhett. He's been around long enough and is a valuable member.

No to Murphy_slaw, but maybe by the time the next vote comes along he'll have established himself better.

Yes to Eskobar, he's damn active and a good writer. I don't care for all the Alexylva stuff, but I cannot deny the consistent quality of his work. He's fair when it comes to criticism and willing to help people who ask for it.

Yes with no further comment: Scantron, Nusquam, Moose, and Eskobar.

Photo: Yes. Not only is she qualified, but I would like to see an additional female point of view in the admin ranks. I agree somewhat with Mann's concern (do we need another admin), but I don't think we've quite reached that point yet.

Echo: Yes. I have some concerns about temperament, but after further consideration I think it's mainly just me. He's indelicate, but tends to be accurate in his commentary, and he seems to have the best interests of the site in mind. Also, I don't believe having a body of work is a necessary prerequisite for modship (though I agree that it's almost always a plus).

Spike: Well, he took himself out of consideration, so we'll go with No, reserving the right to reconsider if his situation changes.

Rhett: Yes. He's actually been around a hell of a long time (almost three years), and generally provides some solid feedback and commentary. Also, see above re: body of work.

Slaw: Not yet. Give him a bit more time.

For the reasons I posted in chat, yes on Scan and Moose, provisional yes on Nus, no on Spike and Echo. Yes on Eskobar. I agree with Troy on Murphy and Rhett. Definitely people to consider in the future, but let's give them a little more time first.

For Photo, I think she's a great choice, but I'm not convinced we need another admin right now.

Alright, then.

People I'm Voting Yes to, and Why:

Photosynthetic- Excellent writer, insanely approachable, and damned smart. She's got a good head on her shoulders and will clearly and concisely argue her point. Exactly what we need in administration.

Scantron- Strongly active on the site. Useful. If we could pull him away from his RPs in a significant fashion, he'd probably be one of the best active members we could might have available.

Nusquam- Solidly active. Solid in his criticisms. Also useful. I think we could put in over a project and see it get finished (and I've got a few in mind for him).

Moose- Not as active as he was, but extremely dedicated. Spends days reading and responding to a backlog whenever he gets back to the site. It's extremely rare to see an article go by without a paragraph written about it by Moose.

Eskobar- New, but active. Smart, generally. Clever writer, when he wants to be, and often more thoughtful than he at first appears. Gives good feedback and criticism.

People I'm Voting No to, and Why:

Echo- I like Echo, but I'm voting against him for the same reason you'll see me voting against most of the people when these sorts of threads come up: volume of authorship. Echo has, if I remember correctly, three co-authorships under his belt, one of which was with me. For a moderation position on a creative writing site, I think you need not only the skill to judge other's writings, but also the skill to craft your own independently. If I see some strong, independent writing from him, I'll support him. But right now, I can't. Senior staff is a good place for him.

Spike- Spike is in a perfect position as Senior Staff. He's got a family, a job, and while he can devote some time to the site, I don't think he's got enough to be moved up into a higher position. He's perfect where he's at, as I see it, and I think I'm the one that pushed to get him into this position. If Spike thinks he's seriously got the time to devote to it, then I'll support him, but with his life—as busy as it is—I just don't see it.

Rhett- Rhett is one of those people that I've supported in past conversations about this, but I've got the same problem with him that I've got with Echo. Not enough authorship. He's get a decent SCP and an alright tale (was just told to check the comments. Not his tale! Posted for a friend. As a side note, Rhett is the one who told me, so maybe this is a testament to his character that the rest of you could consider. I stand by my reasons.), but I want to see more out of him.

Murphy- Murphy has only been a member of the site for 57 days, at the time of this writing. While the writing that I've seen is good, I want to get to know him better. People balked when I suggest Eskobar back in December, because he'd only been around a few months. This feels like we're jumping the gun a little. Lets let him prove himself first.

All right kids, I think promotions is a topic we REALLY need to work on. The site keeps getting bigger, and we have this tendency to lose Senior Staff. I dread that one of these days I'm going to look around and find there are only five of us I trust to handle the site. So, I'm putting forth some suggestions for promotions. You can expound on your descions as much as you want, or only give a yes or no if you prefer. As with votes on articles, no one is REQUIRED to explain why they voted. I have the following suggestions, based on activeness and trust.

To Admin:

Photosynthetic

To Mod:

Scantron
Nusquam
Echo4Delta
Moose
SpikeBrennan

To Senior Staff

Rhett
Murphy_slaw
Eskobar

Any other sugesstions will be added to the list as suggested.
