This represents a quorum of staff. The policy going forward is that both tip jar and Patreon-style donation links will be allowed. They will be allowed on both member pages and project pages. Patreon campaigns for writing SCP articles will not be allowed, and members will not be allowed to post donation links in comments for articles and tales.

Voting is now closed.

I'm assuming this is their pages, not any pages

So long as the donations are handled by reputable websites, I'm alright with allowing both types.

Where should the links be allowed?

Both sound alright to me, provided that the links aren't super obtrusive or something. Author pages should tell people about the author and the author's works, not just tell them they can donate.

If Patreon-style links are allowed, should we include campaigns to write SCP Articles?

Tentative no here. While I like the idea of supporting authors, I'm not sure about authors only writing certain things if/when they're being paid. I feel like the community wouldn't be too happy about that either.

Should authors be allowed to post donation links in comments on articles/tales (with the same rules against spamming as for other links?

Tentative yes, provided that they only post donation links on their own pages. We don't need people randomly posting donation links in discussion pages for, say, 173 and 682 and all the popular articles at a decreased rate to try and subvert the "no spamming" rule(s). I feel like that will also encourage new authors to put work into creating content before asking for donations.

Commentary: Voting yes because I haven't really figured out an objection to this that isn't pure personal preference, since concerns about abuse can be addressed either way.

Should authors be allowed to post donation links in comments on articles/tales (with the same rules against spamming as for other links?

Commentary: There are some issues with this phrasing, such as lack of clarification on whether this is limited to Author Posts. These will need to be resolved later.

I am staunchly against this idea - people have never had to be paid to write SCPs in the past and I sure don't see a reason why we have to pay them to do it now. This is meant to give people a way to support their favorite authors because they like their work, not to pay them to keep doing it. If you'll only write an SCP article because you were paid to do so, then just go write for something offsite.

Should authors be allowed to post donation links in comments on articles/tales (with the same rules against spamming as for other links?

I need further clarification on this last one before voting Yes - are the only articles/tales authors are allowed to post links in are the ones that they themselves have written? If this is the case, then I will vote Yes.

I maintain that we are overthinking this to the point of absurd self-parody.

-EDIT-

I feel as though I should clarify this last vote question. I have no problems with tip jar/paetron owners posting links in the discussion of their own articles. However, the language in the question (likely unintentionall) implies that you can post a tip jar link in any article on the site, rather than just the ones you write.
