This change will only apply legally to new things. Just new things. It does not retroactively affect anything. When we move stuff to the new site, it will be under the new license, but it doesn't matter for anything except new things published.

They still have to give credit where credit it due. This means no SCPs shirts without some sort of attribution on the product. Effectively, all we're doing by changing the license (as far as old products go) is saying: "Please don't do this." Now, at any time, the original author can withdraw their works, but if someone has a copy of them (or the internet itself—yes, you archive.org. I'm looking at you.) then they can still use them. Additionally, this doesn't stop the original author from publishing their works elsewhere. So, if you wanted to make a book called "The Life and Times of Dr. Gears, Foundation Superstar," and put all your Gears stories in there (incidentally, I would buy that), you could do so without any problems.

The original license isn't going away. We're stuck with it. Forever. Changing them is effectively asking people not to do it. That is all.

If I'm misinterpreting what is actually wanted, I'll change it again.

Simply put, given the nonrevocability, it isn't an issue we can do anything about because we've been using a Creative Commons license this entire time.

To clarify, I think we should still be able to switch to Creative Commons Non-Commercial. I believe the nonrevocability is with regards to the Creative Commons rights.

Switching to the Creative Commons Non-Commercial license should prevent that. It will not allow anything published on this site to be used for profit. For the full text of the license, check here. For the TL;DR, check here. This would, effectively, prevent groups like the MC&D wiki (whom I still support, but…) from making T-Shirts and making a profit off of them. Derivative works are still permitted; commercialized works—those done for profit—are not.

There is the problem, though. I'm not sure what it would take for someone to publish one of their stories under this license. For instance, if Gears wanted to make a book of his CreepyPasta, and someone were to agree to publish, could he remove them from the site and have them published in that fashion? I know Creative Commons allows for the author to retain some rights, but how much? Furthermore, could the Electronic Shadows project actually take place?

If possible, I'd like for us to talk to someone who knows the code a bit better (I think we've got a lawyer or two in the site population, and if necessary, I've got one on retainer that I can talk to, but that'll cost me money) and find out just what sort of ramifications this would have.
