And, I don't think a contest would be a good idea. Maybe just get some users who have a few articles and get them to write one part of the branch. If they have a specific target and goal, its more likely to get done.

They make one piece of writing more "valid" than another, which is not a good thing. That is, people view contest submissions as more important than regular submissions, which devalues work motivated by true inspiration rather than desire for acclaim.
