Per the discussion below, the proposed two month suspension from administrator and recusal from further discussion on the Bright Works Thread, including voting, is being implemented.

I agree with the two month suspension of admin privileges and recusal from further discussions involving the Bright Works Thread, although having thought about it a bit more I don't think recusal from the vote is necessary.

This action by Pedagon was worse than just popping off at one individual user, because it effectively mocked/invalidated an entire viewpoint. That said, this has been a stressful time for everyone and I don't think any of us have been at our best, staff or non-staff.

I was rather disappointed to see this report come in, especially because of the circumstances that led to Pedagon joining staff. I think that he has been a great voice in keeping us on track and preventing us from making similar mistakes, and that makes it a shame to see him repeat the issues that he spoke out on as a non-staff user while an admin. If not obvious, I concur with the Disc recommendations.

The perspective of the Disciplinary team is that Pedagon's misbehavior specifically pertained to a high profile, high importance topic, and it is no longer appropriate for him to engage with that specific conversation. As such, this proposal seeks to have him distance himself from that in particular, which includes the vote.

I muted Dagon basically immediately when he posted this. It was extremely irritating when a few staffers were trying to deescalate things at a moment of low faith in us and then this was tossed into the mix. It's doubly frustrating given the conditions and attitudes both of us (re)joined staff under, but I've also seen him be very on-top of telling other staff members to knock it off when they say inappropriate stuff, so this was clearly a lapse in judgement in a moment of frustration. Still, one that needs to be addressed and atoned for.

2 months censure and recusal is fine.

I’ve already spoken with Dagon privately about this and how it was poorly handled on his end. I understand where he’s coming from and his frustrations, but this has been a stressful enough time for everyone. Like Nico said, we don’t need more fires.

Agreeing with the action as proposed- recusal from Bright related matters and two month censure. I don’t think more is needed, Dagon knows he messed up here and this both gets the point across and removes him from the discussions at issue.

Reluctant agreement with 2 month censure and abeyance from the Bright discussion.

This was particularly disappointing because Dagon is usually the admin I trust to keep the rest of us from doing things like this. I feel pretty confident it's not a mistake he'll be making again after his censure, though.

Agreeing with much of Nico's reasoning; this has been a very emotional time, and I think sometimes the best response is to simply walk away and not respond at all.

I agree with the censure, but need a bit of further clarification on why Disc has elected to force a recusal specifically in terms of voting on a proposal. That doesn't make that a denial from me, but more so that I want to see Disc's reasoning before I update my post to reflect the new understanding.

this is an easy one.

the fire department had just managed to get things under control and then dagon showed up to pour gas on things and strike matches. this isnt behavior befitting of an admin. he did end up apologizing which is at least a step in the right direction, but I would like to see a reflection on his behavior on his behalf before being allowed to return to administrative duties.

the main reason I say this is because I remember when dagon and rounder were pariahs amongst staff because of recap team — i know dagon hasnt become the very machine he rages against because I know him better than that. this was a poorly conceived "and then he hit post" meme.

I agree with 2 month censure and abeyance from further Bright discussion.

On January 26th, Pedagon entered a discussion in 19cord regarding progress on the Bright Works Project. During this discussion - which was already stressful and heated due to the subject matter, Pedagon made a number of comments which inflamed the discussion further. These were later brought to the attention of the Disciplinary Team for review, and we have concluded that they do represent behavior that is unfitting of the position of the admin. The two comments which were brought to our attention as notably poor are the following:

My wasp neighbours are also mad about stuff that doesn’t actually need to be put as the priority

Pedagon then followed this comment up with:

Angry white people who think it’s always their turn to speak and don’t believe people exist beyond themselves

Later on, Pedagon responded to a comment from Ori about how the steps immediately regarding deletion and how to handle the slots is being neglected with the following:

But Ori!

https://tenor.com/view/i-want-it-now-charley-and-the-chocolate-factory-tantrum-willy-wonka-gif-14590840

(The above gif is of Veruca Salt from Charley and the Chocolate Factory having a tantrum).

The Disciplinary Team agrees with the judgement of many non-staff members who were involved in this discussion that this is behavior unsuited for an admin. Staff, and admins especially, are expected to behave with respect towards the userbase, and must be held to a higher standard of behavior than the average user. The direct insulting of concerned members of the userbase expressing legitimate concerns is not suitable behavior, and damages the trust of the userbase in the administration team and staff as a whole. Rounderhouse, who was also present during the conversation and attempting to deescalate noted that this behavior made this deescalation harder and damaged faith in staff as a result.

We do want to acknowledge that Pedagon apologized for these remarks the next day:

In a moment where people were dunking on a request for others to stop being abusive and calling members of staff who are trying to get things done “pedophile defenders” I got upset and made a poor comparison to the way people behave irl similarly. It was a bad moment and I apologize

However, we think that this is an especially sensitive moment and the expectation of behavior was greater than normal. As a result, we are proceeding with censure against Pedagon. Given that the misconduct here specifically pertains to his conduct as an administrator and in the Bright Works Project, we are proposing the following punishment for Pedagon:

A mandated recusal from any further discussion involving the Bright Works Thread, including voting on a proposal

and

A two-month censure of all administrator powers. During this time Pedagon will be considered an Operational Staff member.

This discussion will last three days. This discussion is open to Operational Staff and above. Pedagon is invited to post in his defense.
