I pretty much share the same reasoning as Ori and Nico on this. So removal from staff

Any Disciplinary action beyond this would be excessive though IMO. I fully believe what Syuzhet said about her intentions to have essentially been an expression of frustration about the admittedly pretty useless notification we get when users say "kill yourself". She went too far , and as a member of staff she should have known better, but there was ultimately no real harm done in my eyes, and she's not about to repeat this I'm sure.

First, I would like to make clear that regardless of intent, this was bribery. This is clear and evident based on Syuzhet's offers to pay someone with a public duty in an attempt to influence their actions and then her proceeding to pay that person after completion of an act she influenced them to do. It being the extension of an incredibly stupid joke doesn't suddenly make it not bribery.

In light of that, this was a joke. Probably among the stupidest "jokes" anyone on staff can do, but still a joke. Based on Syuzhet's actions, it is clear that Syuzhet thought lightly of her actions and furthermore, thought that staff would unanimously agree with the actions being taken as a result of the bribe. As Syuzhet says, and as other reports support, it took 2 weeks before Disciplinary as a whole became aware of the whole bribery issue. In fact, as a member of Disciplinary myself, I didn't even know anything had happened until a thread was opened about riftwqlker for a case entirely separate from the bribery issue.

While there's a discussion to be had about communication issues within staff, this is not the place. What it does mean though is that nobody on the Discord Moderation team thought that this was such an issue so as to bring it to Disciplinary's attention. Many members of Discord Moderation apparently support the removal of "kill yourself" from the filter for all the reasons Syuzhet gives in her defense.

As such, I am in support of removal from staff as well as a ban of some length between 1-6 months.

Had the acts of bribery been concealed or otherwise hidden, I would advocate for a permanent ban. In truth, this is simply unacceptable regardless of outcome, intent, or context. No one should ever have even entertained the thought of attempting to bribe a member of staff. There are procedures in place to get things done. They may be slow, but frankly, for something as small as this, there is no reason to not have gone through the procedures. The only reason to remove "kill yourself" from the filter was to save Discord staff a bit of headache from having to sift through false positives.

Hi.

I will go ahead and concede that this was a very dumb joke that I took too far. I'll submit to any punishment staff wishes to dole out on me. Although, I would like to clarify a few things…

Syuzhet Makes a Public Bribe Offer For Staff Action

Firstly, and I can't believe I even have to explain this, but I wasn't *seriously* trying to bribe staff. This was a technical violation of the Donations Policy that I should be punished for, sure, but I hope nobody thinks I had actually intended to subvert staff for my own malicious designs or financially coerce anyone. If I wanted to do that, I wouldn't have publicly announced it, declared exactly what I was doing, then had riftwqlker conduct their end of the deal in a channel that's visible to every staff member on Discord, juxtaposed next to a message that says "I'm doing a bribe right now."

I still paid them in the end because I'm not a scammer, obviously, but that is not how actual bribes work.

Syuzhet Continues to Make Light of The Violation in SCP General

Additionally, I hope nobody considers *these* to be actual bribes either. I shouldn't have to spell it out for anyone how $20 in exchange for Nothing and Nothing in exchange for $20 and Nothing barely qualify as actual financial transactions, much less bribes. I'm not even sure why you included these.

Also, at the time of these messages, I was under the impression that I had already been punished by my captain and that I was officially off the hook. It was impressed upon me that the situation carried so little gravity it became water under the bridge almost instantly after it occurred. For the next two weeks, no one told me that it was still a concern, so it only felt natural to crack jokes about it.

Really, this entire situation is a pain, so just rest assured I won't do this again.

Syuzhet Broke Site Rules and Engaged in Behavior Unbecoming of a Staff Member

The admin named Rounderhouse explained it better than I can, but I feel like I should still explain my motivations for removing the "kill yourself" filter anyway.

I only wanted it removed because it's a useless filter with a ridiculous false positive rate that exceeds 95%1. It does nothing but spam the mod chat every time a discussion related to suicide comes up, even if the conversation is otherwise civil and involves zero people telling anyone else to kill themselves. It's not a slur filter -- it doesn't even delete your messages or notify you that you triggered it -- it's a pain point whose sole purpose is to inconvenience the Discord moderator team and clog up their channel. It's annoying.

(Also, the specific keyword I wanted deleted was "kill yourself," and not "kys." The former has uses in conversations that don't involve telling someone to commit suicide. The latter was only removed because the moderator I bribed didn't do it correctly.)

All of that to say, I would like to make it very clear that my intentions were centered around that frustration, specifically, and not because I wanted to sling slurs at people or tell anyone to kill themselves or anything like that.

Please stop saying things that suggest otherwise.

--

Finally, I would like to admonish the Disciplinary Team for failing to clarify any of that in this thread or the other one, when I know for certain there are people on your team that already knew all of this.

I find it very upsetting that the SCP Wiki has decided to plant a very official-looking and very permanent fixture in their public-facing online website that, through omission of context, suggests I would ever seriously encourage someone to commit suicide. Especially in a community that already has a history of its queer authors being harassed because staff fails to consider optics and fails to do the due diligence of providing context for anything.

Which, by the way, manifested into an actual problem only 30 minutes after this thread was created, when someone went straight to my employer and reported me over this matter. Your team even apologized for it and sent me all sorts of reassurances on Discord, which were very kind, but I would like for you to spare me your words and address the actual issue instead.

Seriously, though, I'm not fucking around. You really need to rewrite this thread, Bleep, because I am actually getting harassed over this. Maybe sooner than later, preferably? Thanks.

--

Anyways, besides that, I have nothing else to say.

Sorry for breaking the rules. I will reflect on my actions moving forward.

Please punish me as you wish.

Footnotes

1. If you have access to the moderator chat, you can calculate this yourself. The last time I did it, there were only 2 entries out of ~150 that qualified as actual suicidal impositions.

It's not strictly a slur filter; it's a generalized word filter that has some things labelled as slurs that it blocks and some as dogwhistles that merely send a message to modchat, along with some character names that are disallowed within usernames. That sounds like a distinction without a difference, but I think the item of note is that "kill yourself" trips the filter constantly because people say it in some context or another when we really mean to disallow it in the context of telling someone else to kill themselves. There have been conversations before about removing it — conversations which, I note with chagrin, will now permanently be coloured by this incident of poor judgement.

Agreed. I think we do need to take care to make sure her actions don't get construed as even worse than they are.

I don't really care. She did something bad; she gets removed for the actual thing. I care little for bloviating about her not taking the issue seriously immediately (given it also took us like 2 weeks to get around to doing something about it). Actions are against rules, attitudes aren't, and including them just distracts from the actual point: this is a bribery case (very bad), not a general bad-attitude case (who cares). There's plenty to remove her as it stands, which is exactly what we'll do.

It matters to me because our focus shouldn't be on punishment, it should be on preventing things from reoccurring. I don't want Syuzhet removed from staff because I want to sentence her for being bad. I want her removed from staff because I don't have faith currently that she won't make the same or similar mistakes again. Her continuing to joke about it gives me even less confidence.

This is obviously open-and-shut and removal from staff is the appropriate measure to take. It was dumb as hell to offer it and it was even dumber as hell to actually do it. I've made it clear to Steph how irritated I am at her actions here.

That said, I would also be remiss if I didn't point out that this thread is rather poorly-written and inadvertently misrepresents/miscontextualizes a few details.

On October 6th 2025, syuzhet attempted to bribe Yossipossi to remove the "Kill Yourself/KYS" from the slur filter for $20.

None of that makes Steph's legendarily boneheaded decision to offer someone $20 to remove it remotely appropriate, but I think that wording inadvertently projects that she wanted it removed so that she could tell people to kill themselves; not so. The reason I think this is worth noting is because the poor construction of the thread led directly to someone else going out and contacting her employer which then forced us to have to make public server-pinged staff announcements to upwards of 40k people and drag further attention to this. That doesn't help anybody, and I think could've been fairly easily avoided.

A little more than 24 hours after the initial incident, syuzhet again offered to compensate a staff member for staff work, this time by offering to buy them a game. Additionally, she would later ask for other staff members to pay her. While none of these instances resulted in further monetary exchange, they nonetheless show a lack of judgement and a disregard for the gravity of the rules which were violated.

I don't really care. She did something bad; she gets removed for the actual thing. I care little for bloviating about her not taking the issue seriously immediately (given it also took us like 2 weeks to get around to doing something about it).
Nothing to really say that hasn't been said already, I do disagree that a site ban would be too punitive and would be completely fine with a site ban between one year and permanent.

But given that there is not much call for that, I am also in favor of removal from staff as a bare minimum.

Steph has had a long history of, as Nico put it, "fey trickster bullshit". She often toes the line of ironic joke, to a degree where I often find it difficult to tell when she's saying something with sincerity and when it's all just a weird, bad joke. I had these concerns back when she was placed up for promotion, and unfortunately have not seen behavior from her since that have alleviated these concerns.

This incident is exactly the type of thing I was concerned about- that blurry line between joke and sincerity that turns into an actual problem. Bribery has no place on this site in any form, even for something as mild and as "non-issue" as this. Let it slip, and it becomes precedent.

Likewise, generally speaking, I'm extremely disappointed in both staffers and members of this community for wanting the expression "kill yourself" to become just a thing we casually say to each other, especially in a server of over 40,000 members. People seem to forget that it's not a private space of just friends, it's a massive community of strangers and what's "haha funny joke" to you becomes legitimately harmful statement to another. Be better.

Tangent aside, Removal from Staff.

As mentioned by numerous others, this is an extremely clear case of bribery. Such behavior is unacceptable and cannot be allowed if site staff is to operate with integrity. Being willing to abuse staff resources and trust in exchange for payment is a clear sign that the outcome here should be removal from staff.

This is really one of the most open and shut cases we've had on staff in a while, with every party involved publicly admitting their wrong doing and exactly why they did it. It's pretty evident that Syuzhet meant for this to be a bribe, considered it to be one, and still paid out on it.

At the end of the day, this site won't function if we let bribery become an element. We have to shut it down and say "this is not acceptable" when it comes up; this unfortunately isn't a situation where there can be any leniency. If there had been mitigating factors — like Syuzhet not intending for the bribe to be legitimate and only paying out because of guilt — maybe we could look at this in a different light, but that's unfortunately not the case. Removal from staff.

I agree with the course of action as outlined, which is Removal from Staff. It is worth noting that the person who took her up on this offer was initially only removed from the team, as while we felt both showed poor judgment (especially what ultimately was a joke) it was not something that merited a ban from the site itself as that felt needlessly punitive. The other user was banned for separate rule violations after this initial incident and that should not be weighed into this consideration.

While this was a unique act of foolishness in form, it is by no means somehow more egregious than other foolishness we've seen and I stand by the belief that a site ban is not remotely necessary. This was an action contained to Discord, did not risk the integrity of site permissions in any way, and ultimately is not part of a greater pattern of subverting staff or anything. I also would argue that she be allowed the right of admin review if she wished to return to staff at a later date.

As stated above, going through with paying the bribe makes it different than if it were just a joke which was interpreted literally. There should be a hard stance against this — which inclines me to agree with the recommendation of Removal from Staff.

I would not be in favor of a ban from the site, even temporary, because of Syuzhet's long record of positively influencing the community. Removal from staff seems like a warranted enough punishment for this.

I made my thoughts clear to the rest of the Disciplinary Team during the initial proceedings, so I'll keep this brief. While I agree that this situation represents a breach of trust and cannot be entirely overlooked, my personal experiences with syuzhet lead me to believe that the intent behind the action was not malicious, and that her demeanor regarding the fallout was not meant to show a lack of respect. Nonetheless, I also recognize that intent cannot be determined in the same way that impact can and understand why this particular recommended course of action was chosen.

Apart from this incident, syuzhet has been a massively useful member of staff and a positive pillar of the community. I believe that in the future, when she has had some time to reflect and grow, she should be able to return to her position and continue to contribute her skills. I am willing to agree with the recommended course of action, Removal from Staff, albeit with the stipulation that she be permitted to rejoin at a later date, as an acceptable punishment.

I'd like the strictest possible disciplinary measures to be leveled on syuzhet in this situation, as it's blunt common sense that one shouldn't take a bribe even in a joke while doing staff duties. I'm willing to agree with the recommended course of action, Removal from Staff.

However, I'd also like to ask in as non-passive-aggressively a manner as possible if a ban from the wiki is in the cards. I don't actually believe we've had a staff member do anything quite like this before and I feel that it's utterly unacceptable to allow a user to remain after doing such. I think a ban of some considerable length, not necessarily permanent but at least a meaningful length of time, should be seriously discussed. I would suggest six months to a year - I don't think a permanent ban is realistic to request as it wasn't suggested in the original post nor have I seen much talk about this in other discussion.

I don't really have much to add. It's a very obvious case of bribery, and even if it was performed under a veneer of irony, it's still very heavily against the rules. Allowing this kind of thing to happen unaddressed would set an extreme dark precedent for the site and what staff can get away with. I unfortunately must support Removal from Staff.

I support a Removal from Staff. Bribing a staff member is not only immature, but to solicit it publicly and actually go through with sending the money is extremely poor judgement and sets a horrible example for staff. Even if it started out as a bit or a joke, the fact that it actually went through makes that irrelevant.

I feel like it's basic common sense to not bribe a staff member to break the rules, or for a staff member to accept the bribe. I'd understand it if it was a joke but as everettmann stated, she actually went through with sending the money, showing she was not joking, or at least decided to turn the joke into a serious action. This was very immature, and there is no place for staff willing to make or accept a bribe like this. Also since this isn't the first time she has made comments like this, and even made said comments again less than a day after the incident, its supports that this sort of behavior is something she may show again. I support Removal from Staff.

I don't even she why she'd want to do that in the first place. It's poor judgment, and it's immature. We don't need someone willing to go through with such an immature action on staff, as I think being a staff member takes being more serious than this. Removal from staff.

I suspect this may have originally been a joke on Syuzhet's part. But since she ultimately went through with it, I don't see that as a mitigating factor.

She has also indicated that she hadn't realized prior to the event that it was against the rules. However, "don't take or offer bribes" seems such a common-sense rule that I think that also shows extremely poor judgement.

I agree with the recommended course of action, Removal from Staff.

Purpose:

On October 6th 2025, the Disciplinary Team was made aware of an incident between two members of staff, syuzhet and riftwqlker does not match any existing user name which began in the SCP-General discussion of the SCP Foundation official channel and culminated in monetary exchange in return for the unilateral abuse of moderation power. In more simple terms: A staff member offered a bribe in a public channel at large for a moderator to commit an abuse of power, and a moderator followed through. Initially Discord Staff and the Disciplinary Team did not fully act upon these events, but did strip riftwqlker of their moderation position, and syuzhet was admonished in private by their captain.

On October 20th an admin reinitiated the issue and after investigation the team has determined the issue to be of sufficient concern to warrant further discussion about syuzhet's behavior and role in this incident.

Given the nature of the events in question, their violation of multiple rules, and the behavior unbecoming of a staff member, the Disciplinary Team determined that the evidence warranted disciplinary review proceedings. Afterward the Disciplinary Team gathered this evidence, connected cases and evidence, evaluated them, and determined that they should be presented in this thread.

Claims:

This section will break down the central event and claim against syuzhet and the evidence found to support this claim.

Syuzhet Makes a Public Bribe Offer For Staff Action

The SCP Foundation Official Discord Server (19cord) uses a generalized filter for several different forms of forbidden terms. Among these are the slur filter (which blocks certain terms from being posted altogether, along with informing moderators when an attempt to post them is made), the dogwhistle filter (which does not block terms, but which informs moderators of their use), and the username filter (which blocks certain terms from being used in users' nicknames).

On October 6th 2025, syuzhet attempted to publicly bribe Yossipossi to remove the "Kill Yourself/KYS" from the dogwhistle filter for $20. When Yossi did not respond to that offer she then widened the Bribe attempt to all moderators. It is important to address that this is not the first time that syuzhet has made public bribe offers or directly asked other moderators to take unilateral action.

Evidence Links: Message Link 1, Message Link 2
Screenshots: Screenshot of Attempted Bribe of Yossi, Screenshot of General Offer to Any moderator

In the months prior to this incident, the term "kill yourself/kys" had been called into question as for whether it should continue to be included in the filter. The argument for its removal correctly pointed out that it was almost never used maliciously or in reference to fellow users, and that even innocuous uses of the term would trigger the filter. For this reason, and because syuzhet had previously been involved in such discussions on the side of removal, it is unlikely that her intention for removing the term was to be able to use it against other users.

Six minutes after the public offer was made by syuzhet, riftwqlker then unilaterally removed the term from the filter, which sent a notification in a private moderation channel, after which they admitted to taking action for the bribe.

Evidence Links: Private Moderation Message
Screenshots: Acting upon the bribe

Two minutes after the unilateral moderator action, syuzhet sent riftwqlker $20 via paypal, completing the exchange. Offering monetary reward for staffwork/staff actions, especially abuses of power, is against the donations policy .

Under no circumstances may SCP Wiki Staff accept any compensation for the performance of staff duties. Any attempts to bribe staff into performing duties also constitutes a violation of this policy.

Screenshots: The Transaction

Syuzhet then messaged Naepic 25 minutes later to notify him of the exchange and that she had been made aware that it was in violation of the donations policy.

Screenshots: Notifying Naepic

At this point riftwqlker was swiftly removed from their position as moderator by the captains of the Discord Team and their actions reverted. Naepic, who was already aware of the action by syuzhet, was then notified by Discord Staff, and Admins were informed of the behavior. syuzhet has admitted to carrying through on the bribe and the monetary exchange and has not denied doing so.

Syuzhet Continues to Make Light of The Violation in SCP General

A little more than 24 hours after the initial incident, syuzhet again offered to compensate a staff member for staff work, this time by offering to buy them a game. Additionally, she would later ask for other staff members to pay her. While none of these instances resulted in further monetary exchange, they nonetheless show a lack of judgement and a disregard for the gravity of the rules which were violated.

Evidence Links: First Message, Second Message
Screenshots: Second Time Part 1, Second Time Part 2

Syuzhet Broke Site Rules and Engaged in Behavior Unbecoming of a Staff Member

Besides clear bribery/exchange of monetary value for staff actions being against site rules, syuzhet is an operational staff member, a prominent member of the contest team, a major public fixture in the community, and one of the key contributors to Internet Outreach Social Media posts. As a staff member she is expected to set an example for others in the community. Offering and carrying through on monetary exchange for abuse of power, along with failing to respect the rules in question after being initially warned by one's captain, are gross violations of integrity, expectations of SCP staff, and behavior not only unbecoming of a community member, but requiring review and serious consequences.

Recommendation:

Given the severity of the actions, it is the recommendation of the Disciplinary Team that syuzhet receive the following consequences:

For violation of the donations policy and behavior unbefitting of a member of staff:
• Removal from staff.

These are only recommendations. In line with our current charter, the punishment given to syuzhet will be whatever the consensus is among staff present for this discussion. If the staff body determines syuzhet should receive a more lenient punishment counter to what is recommended above, it will be enacted. For clarity and ease of tallying, please bold your suggested punishment. In recognition of the severity of Syuzhet's behavior, Disciplinary and the Admin team have elected to hold Syuzhet's staff access and permissions in abeyance for the duration of these proceedings.

Please note that Syuzhet is granted the opportunity to defend her actions within this thread as stated by the demotions procedure in the charter.

This thread will be open for seven days and is open to OS+.
