Noting for records-keeping that new site member MxTape (account age 10 days, site membership 5 days) recently posted multiple threads to the critique forums that did not follow guidelines:

Given that they had a multiple of the concept thread, I locked the repeat and placed a staff notice. I later receive a message from the user claiming that they couldn't edit the original thread and as such, had to make a new one:

Hey! It says that the thing I’m writing is locked so I just made a new thread… I’m new so I’m struggling a little… it says that the og thread is locked?

I sent back:

Did you use the correct "edit" option? That is, via the blue "options" link at the bottom of the comment you want to edit, and not the one on another user's comment or the red "edit" option at the bottom of the page?

Staff don't lock threads without announcing the action, and if you notice a thread has been incorrectly locked, you can message a staff member via wikidot PM, the IRC helpchat, or the official Discord to have the thread unlocked.

They replied:

Yes, I am sure. It says it is locked, as it did in your previous message. Therefore, I will just use the most recent thread I created, as it appears to be the easiest solution.

The initial thread was not locked until after you created the repeat. The reason the first thread was locked was because there was a repeat created; staff has no reason to lock it otherwise.

Note that the lock notice was posted on 6 Jul 2025, while your repeat thread was posted on 5 Jul 2025.

Furthermore, you posted a comment yourself in the previous thread: https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/forum/t-17161937/seeking-greenlight-scp-xxxx-ethels-earthly-edventures#post-7058138 "Mb sorry I’m new". If the thread was locked, you would not have been able to post the comment.

Next time, if you notice that a thread of yours seems to be locked and there is no staff post about the lock, please contact a staff member for assistance rather than making a repeat thread.

Using one thread helps keep spam down, and prevents flooding of the forums with repeat threads. Furthermore, it helps reviewers a lot if all corresponding feedback is kept in one place so they can follow the development of the idea and its details.
