I do think the grandfathering could be worded clearer, but I prefer too many things being grandfathered in (although I don't believe there is anything surviving of these last few months) then saying No and thereby deleting stuff that should definitely be grandfathered in (i.e. before the first cutoff-point)

I would like to note that my vote on alternate text generation is much more lenient than my others, but still edges more towards no than yes as of now.

I think the grandfathering should be case-by-case instead of blanket, with the default being no.

Automatic alt text generation is accessibility related, so I'm more lenient about this one, but it's a soft no. It's also best we encourage people to take the time to make alt text themselves.

I must admit I’m mostly wary of the compartmentalized approach I can see coming out of this due to activities of Recently Banned Users, whom I shall refrain from naming but should be easily familiar to most. I understand these concerns might be inflated in wake of that.

Echoing Ori’s concerns re: the Grandfather clause. Also voting No on purview because as it’s stated this feels like a loophole through the attempted ban — I’d like to see more clarification on an instance in which this would be in effect (an example scenario) before voting yes on it.

Edit: agree with others re: alt text generation.

While I do think that if we want to ban all generative AI content on the wiki, this is the best way to do things, I personally think that AI generated content does have artistic merit and some more nuances would be appropriate.

I searched the old discussion but didn't see the examples of articles we missed. If we're talking about the BOTNIK article then I can vote yes to whitelist, if we're talking about things that use ChatGPT or other AIs we're about to ban, then absolutely not.

EDIT: As the grandfather clause would involve allowing articles using GPT2 and similar generative AIs, I am voting against it.

Do we add the following to the rules:

The use of generative¹ machine learning² models to generate user facing content³ is banned.
Furthermore, the usage of tools whose primary use is generative machine learning is also banned for user facing content.
All exceptions to this policy are on the following white list:

Examples of banned content include but are not limited to

• ChatGPT generated text
• Midjourney/Stable diffusion
• AI voice generation

Examples of allowed content

• Grammarly, DeepL translator
• Fractal generation
• Traditional text to speech (if license compatible)
• AI generated CSS code
• Writing stories about AIs

This will replace the previous rules on AI content (see https://05command.wikidot.com/forum/t-15827344/discussion-ai-generated-text-on-the-wiki and https://05command.wikidot.com/forum/t-15272525/discussion-minor-change-to-art-page-rules).

Furthermore:

• Should we grandfather in all previous cases of AI generated content (there were some we missed last time)?
• Should we whitelist the use of AI based captioning for automatically generating?

Finally, do we extend purview of teams in the following ways:

• The Tech team can approve generative machine learning tools for technical uses and can ban non generative machine learning tools.
• The Licencing team can ban any machine learning tool on licencing grounds. This will override a Tech team approval.
