Wikidot has the start of a good idea, in that if you want to browse recent posts, you can pick from categories. That good idea ends when you have to look through either one category, or all. On the new site, a feature could be to pick and choose which categories to browse through. The bonus to this is that we can have threads like the Compliment Thread or the Ask The Person Above You A Question Thread moved into their own subforum, and if people want to not see those posts, they can disable viewing posts from that category. Thank you Kalinin for reminding me and others what a good idea this would be.

At that point, why not just make it a userstyle instead of a userscript, and use Stylish? There are versions of Stylish for Firefox and Chrome, and that would solve the loading delay.

Problem I see is that there's no easy way to switch between the themes, since Wikidot wasn't thoughtful enough to build something like that themselves. I've got a userscript that'll add a button to your screen which'll let you toggle between two css sets, but…

This means anyone wanting night mode needs to download and install a userscript to their browser.

They need to be able to run userscripts in the first place. IE is out for example, and support for Greasemonkey userscripts is not guaranteed on other browser/OS combinations. FiftyNine may be able to provide Chrome support, but even then it's by no means something everyone can run.

There's a slight delay when loading pages, because the script needs to read a cookie, and add a style element to the page's head section.

This one came out of the 2015 Survey results and I believe that this is doable on our end. We'd need some CSS wizardry to accomplish this, but I can't imagine it being any harder than setting up a night-time template (dark background with greyish text) and applying it as an option for people. What do you guys think?

LESS FEASIBLE REQUESTS:

Neutral voting would be excellent.

What kaktus said about staff permissions. Our current system is just silly.

Controversial, but I'd prefer if comments have voting in place, like Reddit. Downvoting a comment is a lot better than a) having people respond to poor comments with their own poor comments, or b) having said poor comments go relatively unnoticed because they're not bad enough to warrant staff attention, but they aren't good either. Self-moderation is the idea.

A "report this comment" feature.

An automated staffbot. Maybe make an account with admin privileges that can ban/unban people on a timer, clean the main SCP listing of deleted articles, and (in line with the above request) notify staff after a comment has reached a certain number of reports. Let's request another API key.

MORE FEASIBLE REQUESTS:

A generalized staff report button that can message a particular team, or perhaps staff in general.

Social media sharing things, for Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Google Plus (I guess?), and Tumblr.

A method of searching tales that doesn't require it to be amazing within its first sentence, or by an author that you know.

Riemann's request for rewrite notifications.

A more easily digestible format for letting the site know what staff is doing, so it's not just "those mysterious people who appear and ban people." Maybe a newsletter, a blog, or something of the sort.

I'd honestly just like to see the nickname in the metadata at the top of the screen, next to the page name, rather than next to the number itself on the page. The page itself is the documentation, which wouldn't have a nickname. But we're looking at it through the window of the screen, into the site, so having it somewhere on the border would be nice.

Renaming every single skip to include their mainlist name as part of the title would take like an hour.

I would rather not go that route on this iteration of the wiki. We wouldn't break any links if done properly but it's doable in the next generation of the wiki, i.e., a 'slug' field where the short name goes, and the list is updated automatically and the ability to put the slug in the title on page load, able to be enabled/disabled at the reader's discretion.

Finding a way to incorporate the mainlist nicknames into the pages, even across the browser tab or something.

Is that something people would like? I know I would like that, because I tend to open a bunch of skips at once, leave for a while, then come back and have to check each tab to find the one I want. But I was under the impression that the prevalent opinion was "Mainlist names are not canonical and thus shouldn't appear on the page itself."

Renaming every single skip to include their mainlist name as part of the title would take like an hour.

Finding a way to remove/nullify votes from users who've been banned, deleted their accounts, gone inactive for a year plus, basically just aren't part of our community anymore. Gross vs actual vote value, where actual is measured by site activity. Not saying flat out reset, but like, just take into account anyone who left us (or comes back!) It would also help for those people who run in, read from 002-500 in numerical order, get bored, and leave after a month or two. It would also help curb some of the whole "this is highly rated, why shouldn't I emulate it???" articles that we could all point to in S1/2. It would also encourage more longevity in our users, I think.

Having a way to denote staff members in their posts, as well as their position and maybe domains, but that last one might encourage people to not listen to like, IO when it comes to crit or something idk.

having a way to actually lock individual convo chains in threads.

Getting the standard volley of like/favorite/share across social media buttons for different pages.

Locking pages so staff and authors are the only ones who can edit them and having a "contact the author/staff with suggested edits" button, with a staff slush pile that we can access to see what needs to be done.

Finding a way to incorporate the mainlist nicknames into the pages, even across the browser tab or something.

A way to indicate who the author of an article is clearly without needing to rely on Alexandra would be nice. Keeping the version history is needed but having something obvious somewhere to indicate the author(s) of the current major version of an article or rewrite would help majorly.

This is a pretty unpopular request, but it's something I see a basis for on the site, reddit, tumblr, IRC, something I experience myself a lot reading the site, and I think it's something kaktus brought up once on his Kaktuskast (and something I spoke about to him way back when): a very short kind of summary of the article somewhere (I wouldn't know where). I admit, I'm pretty slow to pick up on articles, and it seems like even the simple stuff is incredibly difficult to pick up on, whereas some difficult ones are apparently easy? It seems like the case, given how many times I've seen someone on the forums or somewhere else ask "I don't get it, can someone explain it?". I know there's the whole "GOD, WHY ARE YOU ON A READING SITE IF YOU DON'T WANNA READ" thing, but I think it's a viable idea, even if it shouldn't be high on a priority list.

Probably another pipedream; find a way to pimp out Wanderer's Library on the main site more. Just saying………

Better sandbox integration. Post drafts from sandbox to mainsite in a single click. Articles voted to deletion automatically go back to the author's sandbox.

One step further than this even; make it mandatory for the user to have a sandbox prior to posting something. When a user signs up, before posting, they link a sandbox (or sandboxes, if they have more than one like I do) and when they get ready to post, they can post from sandbox to mainsite after going through something like the _404 screen we have now prior to posting.

Also, an integrated O5 would be great. Preferably one titled "O5", and not "05".

I actually like the 05 thing of the site. It differentiates from the actual O5 council! Also, zeroes look nice.

A less stupid staff structure, honestly.

It would be nice to be able to set custom permissions, save them as a "group", and then put users in that group. That way, certain users could have certain permissions based on their team, captains could have additional permissions, admins would be able to delegate permissions, etc.

Also, an integrated O5 would be great.
Well, since nothing is off the table, here are the things I'd really really like:

Neutral voting.

Vote timestamps. Previous votes by the same user aren't deleted but are merely marked as inactive.

When looking at a page's revision history, it shows how the rating changed between each revision, as a simple signed number. Pretty useless for minor typo revisions, but could be very cool for rewrites.

Comment ratings.

Comment threads in general should work pretty much exactly how they do at Reddit. Reddit does this one little thing flawlessly in my opinion. So, that means the ability to collapse subthreads and sort stuff however you like, with top comments first by default.

Mods should be able to sticky comments. Authors should be able to sticky comments on their own articles.

Sane authorship/ownership system that isn't a clusterfuck.

Individual entries in open collaboration logs should have their own rating and their author tracked. Entries falling beneath a preset threshold (e.g. -10) are automatically hidden/deleted. Automation is important, because voting to delete every single bit wouldn't be feasible in my opinion.

Better sandbox integration. Post drafts from sandbox to mainsite in a single click. Articles voted to deletion automatically go back to the author's sandbox.

More and better stats for everything. This is the only one here that's actually possible, far as I know, and I'm slooooooooowly working on it. Slowly.

I think I had more, but can't remember off-hand. I'll edit to add if/when I remember them.
