I absolutely agree with your terms, that we need to publish names of authors and links to original materials for each object into book, and that we should follow the rules of the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 license.

I also understand, that we can't use SCP-173, because Izumi Kato prohibits it.

But what about other objects? Is there another objects that we absolutely can't publish?

My reply:

The only one to be careful of, that I can think of right now, is the Dragonsnails one. Although we've received permission to use the picture from the woman who made the original sculptures, I don't know what her stance on selling material that includes it is. Everything else should be okay. Also note that all the written material on the site is covered under the CC license; it's just the pictures that could be problematic. So if the art is based on an article that doesn't have a picture as part of the article, there's no problem.

Administrators of Russian branch of SCP Foundation gave me your contacts. We had the idea to publish the art-book in Russian language based on the SCP-universe. We want to hire painters, and make a beautiful book with pictures and descriptions of SCP-objects. The book will contain only descriptions SCP-objects and a lot of illustrations. Russian translators and administrators accept this idea. I've talked to most of them, and they relate to the idea positively.

However, I want everything to be legal. So, I need to ask permission from somebody of the founders of the original SCP-project. That is why I am writing you. Can we print art-book of SCP in Russia (in Russian language)? Can we use descriptions of SCP-objects in the book?

Hello!

You are quite welcome to create & publish an artbook (and I, for one, would be quite interested in seeing it!), but you do need to make sure that you properly attribute the source material. For instance, if you included a piece showing SCP-076-2, you would need to include that the author of the source article is the user Dr Clef, as well as providing a link to the original article. (My understanding is that this link does not need to be on the same page as the artwork, but does need to be included in the book, such as in an appendix at the end.)

Also, keep in mind that the book would need to be released under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 license (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/), which I believe is slightly different from the one that the Russian branch is currently using.

Finally, if you are offering the book for sale, it ABSOLUTELY CANNOT include any material that show SCP-173. Izumi Kato, the artist who created the original real-world sculpture, has graciously allowed us to use the image of that sculpture, but only on the condition that no depicitions of it are ever sold.
