Noted. However, if there is no replacement article posted by the time the offer expires (0200 EST 15 May), I think it ought to be deleted (or at least continue the deletion vote). It is accumulating downvotes, and will continue the longer it stays. And isn't the point of deleting lowly-rated article be a prevention of downvote escalations?

And I am not liking the prospect of having a slot be essentially booked like that.

You are correct that standard procedure is to allow a deletion vote to continue in the case of a pending rewrite if the article has been on the site for less than six months. This case is an exception, but it should not be considered indicative on how rewrites will be handled in the future.

I feel like someone should make a post on the mainsite explaining that what happened isn't what rewriters should expect, and that while the deletion will be halted in this case (even though the article is very young compared to the standard ones that get stays of deletion) it's not something that should be expected in the future.

I have a question. I noted that SCP-3222 by CELLBLOCK33 does not match any existing user name is tagged on-rewrite. Yes, Researcher Ferguson has offered to rewrite and Dexanote has established the terms for the rewrite… but does that necessitate stopping deletion? That article (at time of writing) is only a week old, and would lack the usual site presence that many 'in-rewrite' articles tend to have. Furthermore, deletion vote tend to continue for these kind of rewrites (especially when the article is too new to have site presence).

Thus, can the 'in-rewrite" tag be removed since I don't think it matches the purpose of the tag?

Lately there's been a lot of rewrites happening, some of which I am not aware of. Please please please, even if you're not on Rewrite, post about them here so I and the team can get on them more quickly. I am not reading the SCP Foundation the whole day like I used to, so it's very likely I'll miss something unless I either get tells or they're posted here.

SCP-3014: not_a_seagull does not match any existing user name is requesting to rewrite. Waiting on word from Halphas.

SCP-287: Snipes88 and DrMagnus requesting to rewrite. Both have a deadline of 10 days.

SCP-285: Nyka does not match any existing user name rewriting. Draft here ("Mental Megaphone Rewrite" tab). Revised pretty much as much as Nyka will; at this point it's a question if Rewrite wants to move forward with this draft or not. Let me know. Will likely replace (sink or swim) by the end of the week.

SCP-1547: Joreth rewriting, with permission from original author azzleflux does not match any existing user name. Still no draft yet. I'll reinstate the deletion timer at the end of the week if it's in deletion range with no draft at that point.

SCP-2514: jishwa submitted one draft here ("2514 Rewrite" tab). The only draft we have is jishwa's draft; I need yea/nay decisions from Rewrite.

SCP-1661: Westrin and KingOfBees does not match any existing user name have offered to rewrite. They have one week remaining to submit their drafts. Still in process.

7 weeks on, and there's still no rewrite, nor any communication from staff. The article's at the deletion threshold, yet the slot is still reserved for a rewrite without any sort of deadline apparently. This article's been given preferential treatment beyond any reasonable standard, both when posted and in this rewrite procedure.

Note: TheTellmen, this isn't an accusation that your rewrite is taking too long. It's just that any other article would have long been deleted to free the number up, with the rewrite simply taking its chances on claiming the same slot back.

So, SCP-2917 was never noted here and has been in rewrite for three weeks to the day (counting from the day proof of permission was posted). There's been no activity on the Drafts forum from the member requesting to rewrite since. The article is also effectively at -10 (-8 with two upvotes from deleted accounts.) I highly recommend the Rewrite Team prod the rewrite author and set an actual deadline. As it stands the article should either already have been deleted, or the rewrite posted.

Quick note, I've moved this and all other Rewrite note threads to Main SCP Listing, since the Staff Tasks (formerly Random) forum should be more for:

Recruitment for staff projects (annual survey team, whenever log purging occurs)
Progress/planning for staff projects (guide revamps, cleanup)
Things staff should be aware of (recent glitches, a troll sending the same PM to staff, admin announcements when something minor on the site like a label name is changed)

Look at my workbench for a ListPages implementation that shows you articles that are dropping towards to deletion. Also, please don't tag articles as in-rewrite unless you've actually found someone to rewrite and they're working on said rewrite. The tag isn't to be used as a Get Out of Jail Free card.

The difference is that this is a coldpost, and we're really trying to move away from our involvement in those, because they have zero site presence, and it's not like anyone will notice if they're missing.

Every time we've contacted those wanting to rewrite coldposts, it just goes into "Hey, here's a copy of the article, you don't really need our intervention because this article was made a day ago."

That's why we don't really do a ton with these.

Unless this is an article with some significance to the site I'd say go ahead and grant the rewrite request, but delete as normal. If it does have significance, staff should probably handle the rewrite, or appoint someone we know will deliver.
