I can organize this, if we want to do it again. I've already got the forms set up from when we were talking about the featured poll and such.

1. Yes. I think it's useful to regularly survey the site to figure out what people want. The site of 2014 is not the same as the site of 2015.
2. Exactly one year apart for these surveys sounds fine to me.
3. I want to keep all of the questions we have now, but adding some more might be good if we want to gauge some other things, such as support for moving offsite, general direction of the site, etc.

1. Sure.
2. One year after the last sounds good.
3. Given that it's less complicated, keeping the answers the same sounds good.

Bumping this.

Should we do the survey again this year?

If so, when? Last year's was in April/May.

Should we change any of the questions? I made some adjustments to the response options for language & country to better reflect the results from last year, but otherwise it's largely the same.

Last year's questionnaire was 3 pages, which I think is an appropriate length:

Basic demographics (age, gender, language, location)

Internet Outreach (community involvement)

Feedback (the aforementioned freeform questions)

If we add your requests, I think putting them on the last page would be best. However, much like on Jeopardy, please frame your requests in the form of a question :P

I'd say we should leave the old questions the same but add some new ones.

Perhaps an additional section? Honestly, I'd like to know, offhand:

attitudes re: author avatars — approval, disapproval, approval in special circumstances only, disapproval in special circumstances only?

attitudes re: crosslinks — approval, disapproval, approval in special circumstances only, disapproval in special circumstances only?

how much people use crosslinks to find new SCPs right now (even tho we barely have any comparatively)

One of the freeform questions asked what people thought of the performance of Staff and a significant fraction thought we were asking about in-universe Staff, so that would need to be clarified. Otherwise, we didn't really have a problem w/ nonsensical answers.

What's your opinion on adding more/better response options to the questions, assuming that we keep the questions themselves largely the same? Where should we put the cutoff for incorporating unexpected results from last year?

Unless there were any questions that got consistently nonsensical answers or otherwise completely failed to serve the purpose of the survey, I'd say there'd be benefit to leaving the questions exactly the same to the greatest extent possible. Leaving the phrasing the same makes it easier to compare answers from year to year, especially if we're going to be making this a regular thing.

For those who don't remember, we ran a survey last Spring to get some info on what our userbase was like. I was wondering whether we would like to do it again this year. If so, should we use the same questions? Change/add/remove some?

http://www.scp-wiki.net/2014-survey-results

We also had some free-form questions not listed on that page which were… not handled well. Not offensively, but we never got around to actually finishing collating the results and letting the community know what they were. So yeah, that would need to change.

If we do do this again, I definitely want to include more languages/countries on the questions (at least a third of the responses listed weren't in the default options. Thank goodness for the "other" field), but I'm not sure what the cutoff should be. All? Only ones that had at least X number of respondents last time?

Similarly, over half of the "how'd you find us" answers were via the "other" field, so I'd want to include some of those into the default responses. Same problem for where the cutoff would be, though.

I would also change the "unofficial involvement" responses to no long say "fanart/fic/work", but rather just "artwork, fiction, other work". As someone pointed out to me AFTER the poll closed last year, calling it "fanwork" implies a lesser status, which wasn't fair since until recently, we didn't even have a space on the wiki for that kind of non-textual work. Also, I'd change "main wiki" to "English wiki", since we're referring to the international wikis as "non-English".

Edit: Derp, it might be a good idea to include what the freeform questions were:

If you could change ONE thing about the wiki, what would it be?

Do you have any thoughts or concerns about the direction the wiki is taking?

What do you think about Staff and the job they're doing, individually or as a whole?

This is the one that a significant fraction of people got confused by, thinking we meant the author avatars and not the RL Staff.
