Update to Greenlighting Policy

A concern was recently brought forward regarding the Greenlighting policy, notably that the current criteria for authors to bypass needing greenlights is having a page that is rated above -10 after 24 hours (effectively pulled from the criteria noted for Author Pages). Many reviewers felt that a page rated in the negatives should not be considered successful for allowing the bypassing of the greenlight requirement to use the draft forum, especially if such a page was one or two votes away from deletion range.

As such, the greenlighting policy has been updated: https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/forum/t-10629348/new-draft-forum-policies#post-4183908 to clarify that for the purposes of the greenlighting policy, a successful page is considered so if it is rated above 0/has a positive rating.

After a brief discussion with relevant staff, a few changes have been made to the structure of the site forums, particularly concerning what category Announcements go into and how they are treated. These changes were primarily taken in order to reduce the number of stickied posts in the Announcements category, which was experiencing severe bloat and had risen to as many as ten posts, which drowned out all of the sticky posts and many of the non-sticky posts.

The changes are as follows:

The category formerly called Announcements has been renamed to Sitewide Announcements.

A new category has been created, titled Page Announcements. This category contains six threads: the announcement threads for SCPs, Tales, GoI Formats, Deletions, Page Updates and Miscellaneous Page Announcements.

Another new category has been created, this one titled Staff Recruitment. This category is for staff teams to post recruitment threads for new Junior Staff members.

These changes would have meant the "Site Announcements and Proposals" forum group would have contained eight categories, which would have been unwieldly. As such, "Site Announcements and Proposals" has been split into two forum groups:

One continuing to use the original name, containing Sitewide Announcements, Page Announcements, Proposals and Policy and Introductions.

A second titled "Staff Processes", containing Staff Policy Discussions, Staff Discussion Records, Staff Recruitment and Town Halls.

These changes are purely organizational and made to better manage the presentation of content, and make it easier to find relevant threads.

We will likely be moved old Page Announcements out of the Archived Category and into Page Announcements, keeping the most recent versions pinned and allowing others to sink, as is currently done in the Introductions forum. This will happen over the next few days or weeks, as it is not urgent.

04 Mirror: http://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/forum/t-14416714/forum-rearrangement

After the events surrounding this case: http://05command.wikidot.com/forum/t-14208273/disciplinary-martyk-1 occurred, it was requested that Forum Crit staff be able to issue cease-and-desists for authors who clearly are non-receptive to feedback, and effectively take up resources that would be better allocated to authors willing to work with reviewers to improve their material for the site community in mind.

As context, there is existing precedent for team-based cease-and-desist actions, for site functions like tagging (if someone repeatedly tags pages incorrectly) and giving forum critique (if someone repeatedly gives problematic, misleading, and/or overly vehement feedback). I don't think these were documented straightforwardly though, since they just sort of emerged as standard practice when staff handled multiple cleanups pertaining to the same individuals.

As this is a team-focused change, I am putting the thread in this category for now. Similar to how previous forum changes were introduced and implemented:

http://05command.wikidot.com/forum/t-12249918/limit-on-how-many-drafts-an-author-can-ask-for-forum-crit-on (post limits to prevent spam/flooding)

http://05command.wikidot.com/forum/t-10622425/forum-crit-policy-two-tweaks (greenlighting)

http://05command.wikidot.com/forum/t-13095778/new-ideas-critique-forum-policies (concept forum template)

If this needs to go to an official proposal and vote, feel free to let me know. In the meantime, I would really appreciate discussion (mostly from Forum Crit; all staff welcome to weigh in!) regarding:

1. How long should an author cease-and-desist last? (For comparison, a standard C&D for bad feedback is lifted when the user has written a successful mainsite page. For established authors, it is after they have posted helpful feedback on mainsite discussion threads, requested staff to look over the posts, and staff consensus is to let them post forum critique again.)

2. How should staff respond if the author ignores the C&D?

3. Are there any further questions/concerns to address before this becomes standard practice for Forum Crit moving forward?

The current criteria for prospective commanders (have greenlighting privileges) seems solid, though I would append that all commanders should confirm their officer names with me before offering to mentor them.

I will be leading a Flight for the 2nd half of the month. I would like to get at least two more commanders for March.

Thus far, the only criteria necessary for prospective commanders is that they have greenlighting privileges.

Staff are by all means still welcome to volunteer as mentors/commanders; however, I will try to give priority to non-staff who would like to give Flight commanding a try.

Happy New Year, all!

I've been meaning to get a page set up for the Forum Crit team's mentorship events, nicknamed "Butterfly Flights". The prototype is here: http://05command.wikidot.com/butterfly-flights-reference

I would like to get input from commanders who have completed flights in the past—thus far, I mainly have two questions:

1. What content should be included in an FAQ for up-and-coming mentors who are interested in giving Flights a try?

2. What recommendations would you give for running a smooth Flight?

Also, if the page itself needs to be prettied up to be more aesthetically pleasing, let me know! The current version is pretty rough and I don't mind changing it entirely to be a more effective resource for new mentors.

It's mid-July, so I've put up a new thread for Flight officer volunteers: http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-13561222/want-to-earn-greenlighting-privileges-and-or-choose-next-mon#

ETA: if necessary, officers may be contacted via last month's interest thread http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-13432594/want-to-earn-greenlighting-privileges-and-or-choose-next-mon

I would like to now open requests for next month's Flight commanders. I would like at least 3 commanders for August, but we can have up to 6 commanders for the month.

If you are interested in mentoring one or two up-and-coming reviewers for two weeks, please state so here. Also, please note your preference for Flight 1 (August 1- August 15) or Flight 2 (August 15 - August 31).

As a general note… my IRL work has finally evened out a bit, so I am interested in participating as a commander next month and will be taking on one officer. I have no flight preference.

Deadlinks Project

A central hub for recording those links that no longer go anywhere.

Hello folks, it's time to make this project official. To get things rolling I'm going to outline the reporting method, provide an example, and cover any exceptions/additional considerations.

Our goal here is to find and fix dead links. A good chunk of these will be pages that no longer exist, and an equally big chunk will be on the Site News pages. Some of these will be articles that were moved/re-titled. Others will be pages that have not been created. In regards to these two categories, if you cannot find a record of deletion in the deletion threads, PM the author, if they are still present, and inquire whether or not this was an intentional dead link for narrative purposes or if they had renamed the page, assuming you aren't already aware of it being renamed.

When does the above not apply? When an author is including deadlinks on their page as part of a tale series where they are leaving an open link to the next entry. Offer to remove the deadlink or replace it with the element I will discuss next. On Site News pages, pages that are using a dead-link for narrative purposes, or tale series replace the broken link with a [[a class="newpage" href="#"]][[/a]] which should look like SCP-XXX. In regards to link removal, simply remove the triple brackets around the item to preserve the content of the page.

As far as reporting the broken links goes, we want to document a number of things:

Where the deadlink was (article link).

Who the deleted/moved page was created by (If attainable).

What type of page the broken link went to (Tale, SCP, other?)

How was the deadlink created? (Typo, page deleted, page moved and link not changed)

How the link was fixed (Link removed, fixed, or replaced)? Link to the moved article if available.

The link to our google doc with the full list of deadlinks is available to anyone in the MAST discord.

As an example of the reporting standards I will do one link from the first page of links.

This workbench had a link to a tale by Kain Pathos Crow titled "21st - 30th November 2008". The link was created by a deletion of the tale, and the link has been removed.

Obviously for dead-links where multiple different pages link to an absent page, report all the pages that were altered. All reporting should be done in this thread.

Noting that JakdragonX (from the Butterfly Squad Roster) has volunteered to be a commander for May. Also, McB has approached me stating an interest in leading a May Flight as well.

Based on noted preferences, this is the current tentative schedule I have:

Flight 1 (May 1 - May 14): MalyceGraves, TheMightyMcB, gee0765

Flight 2 (May 15 - May 31): N_Aepic_Fael does not match any existing user name, DrAkimoto, JakdragonX

This is subject to change if there are any noted strong preferences for a different assignment.

Commanders, please confirm your officer picks before the end of the month. Note that you may choose from any individuals from the two threads:

http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-13153425/want-to-earn-greenlighting-privileges-and-or-choose-next-mon

http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-13244843/want-to-earn-greenlighting-privileges-and-or-choose-next-mon

As well as via wikidot PM if inclined.
