This thread is to provide a place for SCP Foundation wiki administrators to discuss and come to consensus on the three (3) articles that they will decide upon for their SCP Foundation Heritage List candidates.

Please do not post into this thread unless you are an SCP Foundation wiki admin.

As a reminder, the articles chosen should be:

1. Written in 2008 or 2009.
2. Of good quality in terms of craft and content.
3. Significant to the culture of the wiki and the surrounding fandom.

Here's a list of ones I personally feel are important to the site, regardless of whether or not I particularly like them:

• SCP-055 - [unknown]
• SCP-076 - "Able"
  • SCP-073 - and if we include him, we can't forget about "Cain"
• SCP-085 - Hand-drawn "Cassy"
• SCP-093 - Red Sea Object
• SCP-148 - The "Telekill" Alloy
• SCP-217 - The Clockwork Virus
• SCP-231 - Special Personnel Requirements
• The Testlog Trio
  • SCP-261 - Pan-Dimensional Vending
  • SCP-294 - The Coffee Machine
  • SCP-914 - The Clockworks
• SCP-239 - The Witch Child
• SCP-343 - "God"
• SCP-423 - Self-Inserting Character (aka Fred)
• SCP-427 - Lovecraftian Locket
• SCP-500 - Panacea
• SCP-507 - Reluctant Dimension Hopper
• SCP-579 - [DATA EXPUNGED]
• SCP-590 - He Feels Your Pain
• SCP-610 - The Flesh That Hates
• SCP-682 - Hard-to-destroy Reptile
• SCP-882 - A Machine
• SCP-963 - Immortality

Of these, I would choose 076, 682 and 963 as most important to site history. For personal preferences, I would choose 055, 093, and 914.

EDIT: Adding 239/Witch Child. I personally don't care for it, but it was damn important to site history & culture at the time. Hell, "War of the Doctors" is entirely about her.

My memory is never that great a thing, so i reserve the right to change my answers as more people reply, but I do like this list, think it's good… And the ones I think need heritaging (cause I won't include my own) are 343, 579 and 148.

I can get behind 343, considering that he's essentially the first reality bender on the site (or at least the first that stuck), plus I've seen people actually say/type "oh my 343" many times in both chat and comments. Sure, it may be in jest, but it still shows how people already automatically associate the number with that article.

I'm not really into giving heritage status (at this time) to 148 or 579 for that same reason, actually. Yes, they're both pretty significant, but people don't generally associate them with their number. If I went into chat and started talking about either without referencing what they were, a lot of/most people wouldn't know the article.

If we remove ones that Admins wrote from consideration as Admin choices, then I'd clear all my "most important" choices: 076 was written by Kain and substantially rewritten by Clef, Gears wrote (or ported) 682, and well, 963 couldn't be more associated with you if we tried. In that case, I'd replace them with non-Admin articles 343, 500, and either 055 or 093

I never said anything about clearing ones Admins wrote, only that I wouldn't vote for my own articles, as I feel my judgement there is weighted.

I'd argue at least 148 is associated with its number, but I could be wrong (as it's often just referenced as 'telekill').

Hm. 076, 093, 148, 231, 343, 500, 682, 882, 914, 963: quite frankly, I would consider every one of those to be mainstays of site culture, and I'd hope to see all of them Heritaged.

I understand the motive behind not wanting to choose admin-written articles for the admin picks. However, I can't in good conscience leave 076 or 682 off my list: they are linchpins of the SCP, and I'd be left seriously confused if they didn't make the cut.

As for which three I'd vote for… 076, 682, 914 for sheer importance to site history. (055, 500, and 217 for personal preference, part of which is cultural importance.) That said, at least two of those seem quite unlikely to need Heritage protection. Should we even consider that as a factor?

That's why I'd like to get 076 in. I think it's definitely an important article in terms of site history. It's written by an admin, yes, but I'm concerned it might not get chosen if we don't make the determination. I think the other admin-written articles are less likely to need the protection and more likely to be chosen by one of the next selection groups. So that definitely gets my vote.

I'd like to consider 579 for similar reasons.

For the other one? 500. It's not likely to get deleted anytime soon, but it's a big part of site culture from back in the day that people might not think about.

Yeah. 076, 579, and 500 for my choices.

Personally, I'm not considering "needs protection" as part of my criteria. I'm also trying to exclude whether or not I like the article, as there are definitely ones that I hate (*cough579cough*) that are nevertheless pretty important to the site.

I'm going to have to say 682, 239 aaaaand 261, because I remember them being either massive pieces of collaboration that worked between users and staff, huge events, or simply are that memorable.

Alright, here's my list.

1. SCP-343: Could use a rewrite. Really. But it's extremely well-known and inherently associated with its numerical slot. Low rating (+39).
2. SCP-239: Approximately the same deal as 343 but with slightly less number recognition. Still works for me. Low rating (+34).
3. SCP-500: A rather odd third to pick, I feel, but it's important to site history and happens to be slightly lower rated (+75 — hey, I said slightly) than the many others that I feel are equally important.

Associated commentary:

• 682, 093, 914, 231, and a whole lot of other obvious choices are really not ever going to get deleted, at least not while our system works the way it does. Their ratings are simply stratospherically high. These articles are vital and should be heritag'd, but I'm limited to three choices and need a way to mostly arbitrarily narrow down the list.
• Other articles, like 076 and 073, could theoretically be deleted, but it would take at least a year to do so, as they're both well over +100. Therefore, given only 3 choices, they are superseded by others.
• 579 is important, but IMO an article like it could easily be recreated if it were deleted.

As a side note, I fully expect that we'll be adding more to the heritage list as time goes by. Otherwise there would be absolutely no reason to pick an arbitrary number for the "inaugural class".

That said… 682 is pretty much a shoe-in at this point, so if administration wish to exclude it from their list, that's a pretty safe bet.

Please select your three choices by the end of labor day, if at all possible.
