There have been some issues I've seen around staffchat and here.
First off, some of you seem to be a bit impatient with our warn-then-ban method. You seem to want to move straight to bans, and not just short, 24-hour bans, but permanent bans.
Second, it seems that sometimes, we have trouble dealing with problem users because their specific actions aren't explicitly against the rules.
Third, people are slacking on posting logs when people get warned/banned/whatever.
Folks, we have a system, and it works, but we have to use it.
Taking these out of order: We log things so we can see patterns, and so someone doesn't get seven warnings for doing the same thing over and over again because no one knows they're a repeat offender. They also serve to show patterns of behavior. We can see that while Dude A hasn't done the same thing twice, he keeps finding new and exciting ways to disappoint us. With logs, we can perhaps see that he isn't really trying. Or we might see that he has been improving his behavior, and just has a few hiccups now and then. Even if someone hasn't broken a rule yet, if you think they're going to be trouble, by all means make a post. Not to say everyone's been slacking. Zyn in particular has been very pro-active on this front. The rest of us should follow her example.
If you think a user is a problem, but their actions aren't explicitly against the rules, remember we have some general rules like "Don't be a dick," and "general immaturity." Now, these rules are a bit harder to call. We expect you to be a bit conservative in applying them. When you do, call out specific behavior that you feel falls under those guidelines. Consult other staff when possible. But don't be afraid of doing so. If it's the first time they've done this, you're probably just issuing a warning anyway.
And if we can follow these procedures, keeping records, stopping problematic behavior, then we shouldn't need to jump the gun on bans. We'll have plenty of warning when someone's being a jackass, and we'll hopefully have already issued warnings as appropriate.
The system works. But only if you use it.
