I think it's pretty insane to not have a minimum age limit of 13.
I honestly prefer 18+ because I can't fuckin' stand restricting content. But yes, at least some of our best writers are in the 16-17 age rage.
Likewise, on the one hand we should work to keep adult material off of the site…
I disagree with this. Why should we need to do that.
I'm not talking about the kind of shit that Ecks might link, and excessively gratuitous stuff in SCPs just wouldn't fit, but I don't think there's any damn problem at all with allowing explicit material in Tales (or in SCPs, depending on your definition of 'explicit' - for example, if nudity fits with the SCP, or if the SCP is an anomalous sex toy, or whatever) so long as there's a warning about it in the case of Tales.
We do have to protect ourselves first and foremost.
So… ultimately, I support 18+, reluctantly.
Though I would support even more some kind of age barrier warning the way, say, many major blogging sites implement it. (Bring up adult content warning message, you have to say Yes to proceed.) Yes, that's slightly awkward, but if done right it shouldn't be intrusive - IE, you only see it if you're logged out or if an age check catches you when logged in - but it's better than worrying about censoring shit for stupid reasons. [Would have to check with Mackenzie if that's plausible, of course.]
