After dealing with a couple of particularly… well, I'm not going to beat around the bush about it. Site19 was basically the SCP-Mod Idiot Box for a while today, and after kicking a few users, mostly new ones, and calling out a few others, me and a few of the other ops had the idea that, considering the recent upturn in membership and activity, it might be prudent to go ahead and confront a few of the problems in the chat head on, rather than letting them fester.
The most radical idea was just straight calling out a few users on their idiocy, and making it plain that regardless of how closely they're technically toeing the rules, paying lip service to it isn't gonna cut it. Special-snowflake, self-diagnosed, FYIAD attention-whoring is probably the worst. Right behind that is the rash of backseat modding. It might seem "mean" or whatever, but there's nothing to be gained by tolerating or fostering stupidity, or patting it on the back and telling it that it's special. It's not good for the community, and on a more esoteric level, it's just massively enabling the fucktardery. Additionally, drawing shit out and pretending that it's not a problem has never done any good anywhere. Myself, Eskobar, Murphy, and Nus thought that a little developing of this idea might be worthwhile, so anyone that wants to throw in? Fire away.
