So, what's Mackenzie's official status? I know she's been very active about getting things standardized and cleaned up but she's not staff or mod (or if she is, she's not listed as such).

If she's not in a position of official authority I think we really need to tell her to stop telling other people what to do or otherwise we need to bring her into the fold. Because nothing chaps me more than seeing users scold other users for "doing it wrong," especially if they think it is going to get them some kind of status, and there's a lot of people who are taking up that kind of behavior.

She isn't staff, no. She's been corrected repeatedly for overstepping bounds. It keeps happening. I think she needs a final, clear warning to stop expressing her opinions as being authoritative and making nebulous threats of mod/admin intervention if they aren't heeded and just post criticism like a normal person.

Nobody's actually been able to give a reason why she isn't staff that's not just personal issues. I'd support promoting her.

This. I have asked what is the perceived issue with her, and I've been directed to the forums here at 05 command. I've read them and I still don't see what the problem is.

She creates useful tools. She is apparently ranked third among all authors in terms of articles + tales page count (http://scp-nala.wikidot.com/authors-by-page-count), behind Gears and Clef but ahead of everybody else. Her body of work includes some very highly-rated stuff (http://scp-nala.wikidot.com/authors:raven-mackenzie) (note that I'm just assuming that Nala is correctly reporting her authorship here).

If something like a site move or a site overhaul were going to be seriously considered, I can't imagine why you wouldn't want her input.

She is given to melodramatics, cannot take criticism, frequently oversteps her bounds, speaks her opinion as if it were authoritative, is not good with people, has stated she's glad she isn't staff because it lets her rip newbies apart whereas staff have standards of behavior to adhere to which would mean she couldn't do this, and makes things into bigger issues than they actually are.

I also tempbanned her from 19 a few days ago because apparently I'm a douche.

Anyway, Sorts, you wanna handle this or should I? Don't want to message her twice.

I'm happy to address the issue with her, I just wanted to be sure I was properly understanding the situation first. I try to make it to the wiki to do something constructive each day but I still miss a lot… and she sure does act like she's speaking from authority. I didn't know if she had been given the clear to do so or not.

And I also think she COULD be staff if she didn't act like she did when you banned her from chat the other day, both before and after the ban.

Anyway, since apart from that one post she's not actually done anything complaint worthy today, so I'd feel safer bringing the issue up with her the next time she crosses the line rather than sending her a private message and making her feel more persecuted behind the scenes.

spike is correct on all points. In addition, Mackenzie has given constructive feedback on hundreds of works in progress, helped out I don't know how many newbies in the chat, streamlined the tags on the site, and developed her own data extraction and data mining tools for authorships and ratings.

On the other hand… Nus is also correct on all points. She also feels persecuted by certain members of staff (though given what history I know this may not be entirely unjustified) and refuses to vote on any article, up or down (which sets a bad example, in my opinion). These are not traits that we want in Staff.

Which isn't to say I don't think Mackenzie should never be staff. If she were to take steps to improve her behavior based on the points in Nus' post, then I would reconsider. But at the moment, I can't support her for staff.
