What appears to have happened was:
- Tuomey added the ban, with the reason: "24 hour for derogatory remarks about AIDS sufferers".
- ProcyonLotor changed the length to weeklong.
- Following this, ProcyonLotor made another edit to change the reason to: "weeklong for edgelorditude".
The ban reason "weeklong for edgelorditude" is still the reason currently listed in the bot.
Going to repeat what I said elsewhere, in brief:
When we switched to banning by bot, we allowed operators to put in insulting/comical reasons into the ban field. This was done under the tacit (never codified) understanding that this would only be done in cases where the user was a deliberate, obvious troll (and by obvious I mean "comes into 19 and spams the same line" or "randomly pastes a single racial slur"), or when the user had been told directly that what they did wrong, and behaved badly in response to the situation.
I don't think that's a problem, though I would prefer to defer to more "19-active" chat staff on subjects like these.
However, simply putting in a mildly insulting comment, that doesn't really explain to the user what exactly they did ("edgelorditude" actually sounds more like we banned them for the name "PsychoJosh" than anything else), is not something I'm excited to see.
I wouldn't have batted an eye at "weeklong for edgelorditude" if the user had already been spoken to by chat staff.
As it stands, I recommend reinstating Tuomey's original ban reason.
