I think we're actually going a step too shallow here.
One of the major criticisms I've had for years about the structure of the wiki et all, is the general impenetrability of navigating to a specific archive.
How do you get to Joke SCPs? Series 1-4 -> Content Archives -> Jokes. It's not very well organized.
I think it's time we re-organize navigation away from the side/top bars, and create a tree structure for the content archives. I mean, if you're looking for a specific tale after a few days, good luck. When someone hits the "Main Page", 90% of the time, the content isn't very relevant. 40% of the page is the international branches, 20% is news, and 20% is four featured articles. I think this is relatively counter-productive to easy navigation.
However, bringing up problems without solutions is dumb. I sketched out a really rough idea of what the "tree" should look like, but ideally, I think we should seriously re-organize how we link articles on the wiki.
Most tales, and articles aren't linked to any particular page other than an author's page. For instance how would you get to my (first) work on the wiki ever? You could go to my author page and click on it, but if you're not looking for it, you'll basically never find it.
Here's a very rough tree of what I'm proposing, and honestly this needs a lot of work. This is my "five minutes on a napkin" version of the top level categories:
- Skip Series
- Series 1
- Series 2
- Series 3
- Series 4
- Jokes
- Arc's
- Ex's
- Tale Series
- Tale Hub (Uncategorized)
- Series Hubs
- Other Hubs
- Guide Hub
- Canon Hubs
- GoI Hubs
The good news is, due to various bots, we have a full enumeration of articles, and their tags, and who wrote them. This project would be…a lot, yes, but it's not like it'd be impossible.
A couple of things I've considered: We do have most of the content available on the top bar. I don't think most people use the top bar. And even then, it's not particularly well organized. Each "content page" should have a link-back to its "parent" page. Being on the Joke SCPs page should have a link back to the Skip Series page. Having a series hub would also allow us to have a short blurb about the context of each series, and what it's opening contest was.
Basically I think this'll let us turn a lot of the wiki from "place where we put articles" to "fleshed out writing project."
