THIS WAS ORIGINALLY A REPLY GURRENBUSTER'S COMMENT. BUT I FEEL LIKE IT'S BETTER OFF AS IT'S OWN POST?!
I also didn't end up offended by it. Tentacle rape is a type of porn, the kind that uses cartoon characters. I think that a lot of people here seem to have forgotten the difference between real sexual assault, and what exists as porn.
Tentacle porn isn't real. No one is actually people assaulted, they're voice actors and cartoon girls drawn by someone. Real rape is, as many people have said, a disgusting and awful thing. Tentacle monsters, and by proxy tentacle rape, only exist in fiction because some horny bastard drew some porn.
I don't think that this is disrespectful, because no one has ever been raped by a tentacle monster. I don't think it's disrespectful, because it plays off something that only happens in cartoons. I don't think it's disrespectful, because I don't think it is making fun of rape victims1. It isn't treating real rape victims like it's there fault or anything like that. It's poking fun at a trope that exists in porn featuring Japanese cartoon girls.
If this was a joke that wasn't about a tentacle monster, but just a rapist that made people like it or some shit. Then yes, I could see why people would get a bit pissed about it. But it's not, it's about a trope that isn't real. The cartoon girls assaulted in do not exist. They are voice actors and animators. They do not have feelings other than what is on screen, and they do not represent real people at all. They are not rape victims, they are drawings.
They do not represent rape victims, they represent porn. They do not have to be shown respect2. They are not real, and do not reflect anything real. Anime girls who are decapitated and brutalised do not represent real people. Anime girls who are assaulted by tentacle monsters do not represent real people. And I think that anyone who equates this to actual rape doesn't understand what is and isn't fiction3.
Perhaps if this trope is so offensive, you should go write to every tentacle artist and explain to them what is wrong with their work4. I'm sure that they will have plenty of reasons why their work isn't offensive. Or not, who knows?
Of course, maybe I'm full of shit. In which case I'd be more than welcome to have a reasonable and respectful discussion about the topic. Perhaps I might have a change of heart, who knows?
That being said…this was still a shitty tentacle monster with no actual punchline. -1.
Footnotes
1. Or victim shaming, or anything else said here.
2. This may come off as brash, but I cannot articulate what I intend to say properly here. If someone wishes to enquire about it, then I'll attempt to explain myself in a private message.
3. Once again, may come off as brash. Feel free to enquire about it's meaning too?
4. I'm not making hyperbole either. If you think that this trope is offensive and discredits real rape victims, then voicing it towards the people who make it might "show them the light" so it is.
