caption= The instance of SCP-XXXX with the word “λαβύρινθος” (labyrinth in Greek) is written.|
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: The location of SCP-XXXX is to be run entirely by Foundation Staff, and to continue it's normal procedures. Testing and exploration of SCP-XXXX must be approved by Level 3 personnel or higher. EDIT: After the events of Document #XXXX-III, SCP-XXXX is to be under full video surveillance. At least eight security personnel are to be stationed at the location of SCP-XXXX at all times.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a ventilation entrance located inside the basement and storage of ███████ School, ███████ IL. Above SCP-XXXX, the word “λαβύρινθος”1 has been crudely written in black paint. The vent entrance itself is non-anomalous, and the dimensions of the inside of the vents are approximately 61 x 65 cm. SCP-XXXX’s anomalous properties start to show after entering any instance of SCP-XXXX and progressing over 6 meters. All instances go 2 meters directly forward before making a 45 degree angle towards the left. After this turn, there will be another 45 degree angle towards the right about 3 more meters in. After this, all turns and dividing paths will become completely random.
SCP-XXXX's mapping is impossible due to the erratic and spontaneous changes. The anomaly has also shown that it is capable of impossible feats, such as having four 90 degree turns in a row without running into previously explored parts of itself. SCP-XXXX will also constantly change the path behind subjects inside of it. Once entering SCP-XXXX, there is no conceivable way of exiting. EDIT: Following the events of Document #XXXX-III, it has been noted that exiting SCP-XXXX after entering is possible, but extremely hard to do. Following failed exploration attempts after this, it has once again been confirmed that after entering SCP-XXXX, it is nearly impossible to exit.
At random periods of time, subjects inside SCP-XXXX note hearing distant movement. After approximately three to five minutes, this noise can be picked up through the audio feed. The movement will constantly increase in volume. After a random period of time, the noise will abruptly end. This is followed by the movement to quicken to an extremely fast rate. Subjects inside SCP-XXXX will begin to feel that they are being chased, and will promptly begin to panic. After this, results vary. The "chaser " of the subject has been classified as SCP-XXXX-1. EDIT: Following Document #XXXX-II, it is to be noted that there are multiple instances of SCP-XXXX-1. The exact amount of instances located within SCP-XXXX are currently unknown.

D-11604 is a 36-year old caucasian male with an average physical build and no remarkable psychological history. D-11604 has been given a 50 watt headlight, along with 2 liters of water and an audio headset for communication with Dr. █████. A camera to supply video feed is also equipped. Due to the size of SCP-XXXX, supplies are limited to allow easy movement.
D-11604 crawls inside SCP-XXXX. Camera and audio feed continue to work, and the headlight is seen to work effectively. D-11604 is told to move further into SCP-XXXX. First, there is a left turn at approximately 45 degrees. Following this turn, there is a right turn of about 45 degrees. D-11604 continues past this turn. Following this turn, the camera feed cuts out abruptly.
Dr. █████: D-11604, are you there?
D-11604: Yeah, I’m still here. Why?
Dr. █████: Have you tampered with your camera?
D-11604: No, I haven’t touched the camera since you guys put it on me.
Dr. █████: Alright, thank you. Please notify us of any changes.
D-11604 continues further into SCP-XXXX for approximately 3 minutes before he is heard stopping.
Dr. █████: Is there a problem?
D-11604: Yeah. The vents divide into two paths. One on the left, and one on the right.
Dr. █████: Are there any significant differences between the two paths?
D-11604: Not that I can see.
Dr. █████: Take the path on the left. When encountering a path divide, continue to take the path on the left and report.
D-11604 continues for another 17 minutes and has reported taking 6 lefts.
D-11604: Hey doc, how big is this thing? We're in a school, right?
Dr. █████: The size of SCP-XXXX is unconfirmed.
D-11604: Then how long should I go at this? When do I turn back?
Dr. █████: You will turn back when it is required. Remember the contract that you signed, D-11604.
D-11604: Alright Doc, I know. Its just th—
After saying this, D-11604 went completely silent.
Dr. █████: D-11604, are you there? Is there a reason for stopping?
D-11604: I can hear movement. It’s really faint though… Doc, am I alone?
Dr. █████: That is unconfirmed. Describe this, "movement".
Audio does not pick up what D-11604 has called movement.
D-11604: It’s really faint, but its consistent, like a rhythm. It sounds like something else is crawling around in here… I think I’m gonna start heading back now.
Dr. █████: D-11604, that is unadvised. Please continue forward.
D-11604 is unresponsive, but is heard moving once again. This continues for about 30 seconds before falling silent.
D-11604: …You can get me out of here, right?
Dr. █████: All of the paths you have taken have been recorded.
D-11604: There’s dividing paths again. I don't remember passing this before…
At this point, the noise D-11604 can be heard through the microphone. This noise is faint, yet can be heard growing louder at a slow rate.
**Dr. █████: Please take the path on your right.
D-11604 is heard moving again. This is consistent for around 4 minutes before a stop.
D-11604: Fuck! It’s a dead end! It just stops! It should'n-
D-11604 becomes silent again.
D-11604:[whispering] The movement stopped. Just now. I can’t hear it moving. Doc, please help me…
Dr. █████: We will try to get you out of there, but we need your cooper-
Audio can be heard of the movement once again, but it has increased in speed and volume dramatically. It has also changed from consistent to extremely erratic. The noise is becoming louder at a very fast rate, and is supposedly approaching D-11604.
D-11604: [yelling] Doc doc DOC DOC DOC HELP M-
Audio transmission cuts out. Attempts to reestablish connection have failed, and D-11604 has been presumed deceased. The entity that caused this noise has been designated as SCP-XXXX-1

D-10425 is a 27-year old caucasian female with a slightly underweight build and no remarkable psychological history. D-10425 has been given a 50 watt headlight, along with 2 liters of water, and an audio headset for communication with Dr. █████. D-10425 is also equipped with a red non-toxic spray paint can.
D-10425 enters SCP-XXXX. Audio feed continues to work, and the headlight is seen to work effectively. D-10425 is told to move further into SCP-XXXX. D-10425 sprays an "X" onto the wall next to the first turn, and does the same for the second turn.
Dr. █████: Remember, you are to spray an X to the surface of the wall at each turn you make.
D-10425: I know, I know, you guys told me already.
D-10425 continues further into SCP-XXXX, and is heard spraying an X on another turn. She continues this action for around six minutes.
D-10425: There’s two paths here. Which one do I take?
Dr. █████: You are to take the path on the right. When encountering another split, please alternate which path you chose and report. You are also to spray an X on the wall corresponding with the path you chose. Continue this until you notice any changes in the environment.
D-10425 continues on for thirteen more minutes, reporting four left turns and five right turns.
D-10425: Its pretty cramped in here. Just enough space to crawl around, but no where near enough to stand up or crouch. Really glad I don’t have claustrophobia.
Dr. █████: Is there a reason for this statement?
D-10425: No, not really, just thought it funny how -
D-10425 becomes silent and stops crawling. She then begins to talk in a low voice.
D-10425: I can hear someone else crawling around in here. Can you guys here it?
Dr. █████: Your mic does not seem to be picking it up. Did this occurrence begin just now?
D-10425: No, but I just noticed it. I think it might’ve been going on for a while.
Dr. █████: If there are any changes regarding this noise, please report it.
D-10425 continues further into SCP-XXXX for eight more minutes and reports two left turns and one right turn before stopping again.
D-10425: The path ends here. I’m gonna spray an X here and then head back, alright?
Dr. █████: Okay, D-10425. Please make your way back using the marks.
D-10425: Sounds like a plan.
D-10425 turns around and heads back for three minutes before stopping. Audio of the additional movement from SCP-XXXX-1 can now be heard.
D-10425: Doc, there’s a split I don’t remember passing…
Dr. █████: Is there a mark on either side?
D-10425: Yeah, down the left path.
Dr. █████: Please continue down that path. Follow the Xs, whether or not you remember taking that path.
D-10425 advances for another two minutes before stopping.
D-10425: [pauses] There's marks on both passes… How is that possible? Doc, I’m not lost, am I?
Dr. █████: No, you’re not lost. Please take the path on the right.
D-10425 advances for another four minutes before commenting.
D-10425: I think that was the right path. There’s only one X on this split again.
Dr. █████: Please continue down the paths and only report when noticing a change in the environment.
The noise from SCP-XXXX-1 has stayed at a set volume for an extended amount of time, but has now resumed becoming louder at a constant pace. D-10425 does not seem to have taken notice. After approximately 6 minutes, D-10425 stops again.
D-10425: The marks stop! There's no more fucking Xs! I’m gonna turn around.
D-10425 can be heard to turn around, but stops again within 15 seconds. Following the exclamations made by D-10425, the noise of SCP-XXXX-1 seemed to increase in its constant pace.
D-10425: [yelling] There's a fucking dead end! What the hell is going on?!
Dr. █████: D-10425, please remain calm and quiet. Continue down the left path and mark the turns as before.
D-10425: [yelling] Fuck you! Fuck this!
After this statement, the SCP-XXXX-1 is heard stopping. D-10425 then begins to whisper in a panicked tone.
D-10425: [whispering] Doc… the thing stopped. I think it heard me… what do I do?
Dr. █████: You are to remain in place, and face both of the visible paths. If you see anything come from either side, you are to go down the other and describe what you saw.
D-10425: Alright… I’ll do that.
Following this comment, the noise returns, but louder and at an extremely quickened and erratic pace. A click is heard, and the noise continues to grow louder until silence returns. The noise then returns 45 seconds later, but from a distance and at it’s original steady pace. A click is then heard.
D-10425: Holy shit, that was the longest minute of my life.
Dr. █████: Did you see the creature?
D-10425: No, I turned off my lights and I think it passed me by.
Dr. █████: That doesn’t make sense. The creature should have been adapted to not needing light to see, being that it lives in constant darkness.
D-10425: Whatever the case, I’m just gla-—
//Before this statement can be finished, D-10425 can be heard screaming, after which the audio feed cuts out. Attempts to reestablish connection have failed. D-10425 is presumed deceased.
It has been hypothesized that there are multiple instances of SCP-XXXX-1, and the one picked up through the audio at a further distance was a different instance than the one near D-10425. It is also to be noted that instances of SCP-XXXX-1 seem to track using noise, and it is advised that future explorations be conducted in a quieter fashion.//

D-12416 is a 38-year old African-American male with an average build and a history of chronic depression. D-12416 has been given a 50 watt headlight, along with 2 liters of water, multiple and an audio headset for communication with Dr. █████. D-10425 is also strapped into a tethered harness that lead to security personnel along with Dr. █████ and several researchers on the outside of SCP-XXXX. The tether connected to this harness is approximately half a kilometer long.
D-12416 enters SCP-XXXX while tethered. Audio feed continues to work, and the headlight is seen to work effectively. D-10425 is told to move further into SCP-XXXX. D-12416 progresses further into SCP-XXXX, with the tether dragging along behind him. There is no trace of the X's sprayed in the last exploration, with the exception of the first two placed next to the first two turns.
Dr. █████: Remember to report anything unusual to staff, and report in a quiet manner.
D-12416: Why quiet?
Dr. █████: This information is on a need to know basis.
//D-12416 continues for about 45 seconds before talking.
D-12416: How long am I going to be in here?
Dr. █████: You will be in there for as long as is necessary.
D-12416: [pauses] That was vague as hell. Hey wait, there’s two paths here. Which one am I supposed to go down?
Dr. █████: You can make this decision. However, please state which way you take at each split.
D-12416: Alright, I’m gonna go right. Right’s always the right choice, right?
D-12416 continues for approximately 17 minutes, taking four lefts and eight rights before stopping.
D-12416: Uh, I can hear something else moving up here. It's like a constant rhythm, like a metronome. Is anything else up here with me?
Dr. █████: This information is confidential. How long have you been hearing this noise?
D-12416: I'm not sure, just noticed it now. Anything I should know about this?
Dr. █████: It is advised that you keep quiet when responding to questions, as previously stated.
D-12416: So there’s something in here that wants to get me if I'm too loud. Am I right?
Dr. █████: Again, this information is confidential.
D-12416 is heard muttering “Confidential my ass” before continuing on. At approximately 45 minutes inside SCP-XXXX, D-12416 becomes silent once again. The subject has reported 27 right turns, and 12 left turns.
D-12416: The vent just ends here. Should I head back?
Dr. █████: Yes, please follow the tether back. Remember to follow the tether, even if the places it is leading into seem unfamiliar.
D-12416: What do you mean by, "unfamiliar"?
D-12416 says this upon supposedly approaching a divide on the way back.
D-12416: Huh. Yeah okay, I see what you mean.
Dr. █████: D-12416, you don’t seem bothered by many of the elements of SCP-XXXX. Might I ask why?
D-12416: This isn’t really bothering, if that’s what you’re asking me. I get how some people would find this creepy, but not me.
Dr. █████: Noted. Remember to state any changes from the usual.
D-12416 continues back for six minutes before stopping.
Dr. █████: Reason for stopping?
D-12416: That noise just stopped.
Dr. █████: This occurred just now?
D-12416: Yeah, just now. I’m gonna be quiet now, maybe it’s listening. I’ll just ke-
SCP-XXXX-1 can be heard moving rapidly towards D-12416.
D-12416:[yelling] Oh shit!
Audio feed cuts out after this statement. D-12416 was presumed deceased until a reconnection four minutes later.
D-12416:[in a low voice] Hey, just had to turn off the mic so you guys didn't talk.
Dr. █████: D-12416, that was unadvised. Please report what happened.
D-12416: I saw this thing crawling at me right after I turned off the mic. It was coming right at me, so I started pounding the ground in that constant rhythm it was doing before with my hands, 'cause I thought there was no way I could out-crawl that thing. It stopped like 3 feet away from me, stayed for like 20 seconds, then turned around and left. I didn't stop doing that rhythm until just now.
Dr. █████: Please describe what this creature looked like.
D-12416: It was pale as fuck, has a mouth with sharp teeth across the entirety of where its face is supposed to be, no eyes. Really skinny. It smelled like a fucking corpse. When it finally turned around, I also saw the number 17 painted pretty small on the back of its head. It was wearing a D-Class jumpsuit like me too.
Dr. █████: Did you happen to see what number was on the D-Class jumpsuit?
D-12416: Yeah, I think it started with 11. the rest of it was smudged.
Dr. █████: This information has been noted. Please continue to follow the tether.
D-12416: Don't need to tell me again, I'm getting the fuck out of here.
D-12416 continues down for approximately three more minutes, before he can be heard coming from SCP-XXXX. He emerges from SCP-XXXX, and takes off the harness. After about two minutes, four instances of SCP-XXXX-1 emerge from SCP-XXXX. Two minutes after this, a noise not unlike screaming can be heard coming from SCP-XXXX, followed by what has been hypothesized to be "Γύρνα πίσω! Σας παρακαλούμε!"2.
//Note: So technically, if one of these things makes enough correct turns, it's gonna stumble right out of SCP-XXXX. New containment procedures should be put in place, just in case. -Dr. ███.
Addendum: After the events of Document #XXXX-III, continued explorations have ended with little to no new information learned. It is also to be noted that continued explorations with tethers have ended with the tether being cut (presumably by SCP-XXXX-1) or becoming detached from the D-Class it was originally secured to. Following this, the item's description has been reverted to it's original sense in that there is now way to exit SCP-XXXX after entering.
