The problem is that discussion pages for wiki pages are hidden by default. Given that the page wasn't being used properly (as evidenced by a temp lock that went up and back down yesterday), I think a more visible forum thread which can facilitate discussion is a much more preferable solution to having a more static information page.
With a forum thread like this, a user or a staff member can immediately be up to date on changes by just noting that there's a new post on these forums as opposed to having to watch a single page on the wiki in addition to everything else.
Essentially, if locked pages are a very minor and low priority issue, as your initial post in the discussion thread of that page outlines, then a wiki-page can make sense (I'd still disagree, but that's not the discussion we're having). If it's a much more serious issue, and, as Moose points out here…
That's what must happen. What I would suggest should happen is that no pages should be locked without public discussion on O5.
… then we need a more public thread to deal with the problem.
All this is true, but what is also true is that for some reason I completely spaced on the fact that the page in question even existed (I was reminded last night a'fores bed though). As did a couple of people in chat when I asked about making this thread. Had I remembered, I'd have started a discussion (before posting) about the merits of a forum thread over a wiki-page: We don't need a list, we need a public place of discussion for new inclusions.
I think that we completely forgot about the page is probably an argument in favor of a forum thread as well, but it should be noted that my arguments here are all after the fact. I'll leave it up to others to decide one way or 'nother here.
