AJMansfield posted a page with the url "pl-hub". This was a redirect page to link to the Prometheus Labs hub. There was some confusion about what happened. As I PM'd A Random Day to see if AJ had asked him, Randomini PM'd AJ over IRC. ARD replied with this:
Nobody contacted me regarding that link; I couldn't see who created the link and assumed that it was the work of some overeager newbie. It looks like the non-redirect page has been deleted now?
And AJ responded to Randomini. (Logs provided by Randomini using his new Beautilog thingie.)

hey dude, quick question |
Randomini |
you just made that redirect page, is that something you've discussed with |
Randomini |
a. your team, or |
Randomini |
b. staff |
AJMansfield |
it has been annoying me for a really really long time |
AJMansfield |
and it adds to the site |
Randomini |
that isn't really true |
Randomini |
http://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/forum/t-1613099/pl-hub#post-2462290 |
AJMansfield |
I've deleted the page |
AJMansfield |
also, what would my team have to do with it? |
Randomini |
just was wondering if it was something you decided to do or your team thought would be useful |
AJMansfield |
well, I'm sure a lot of people also have trouble spelling 'prometheus' |
Randomini |
you seemed to do it just fine |
AJMansfield |
not always |
AJMansfield |
I'm only remembering it now because I had to look it up a few minutes ago |
AJMansfield |
I mean though, why would it matter if it was something I did myself, or something I did with my team? |
AJMansfield |
that doesn't make a lot of sense |
Randomini |
mostly because staff have to figure out who they are wanting to say "please don't do that again" to |
AJMansfield |
ok |
AJMansfield |
well, I have noted that |
Randomini |
cool, no problem dude |
AJMansfield |
won't do it again without asking first |
Randomini |
might be a good idea to check if things like site redirects or system things on the wiki are fine to do in the future |
AJMansfield |
I just had assumed, since basically most other sites are usually cool with adding redirects and stuff |
Randomini |
I can understand that assumption, but one of the many problems with redirects is |
Randomini |
they add pretty much nothing |
AJMansfield |
they don't really do any harm except take up a bit of the namespace either |
Randomini |
and should really only be used if a page is moved |
Randomini |
and is referenced from elsewhere |
Randomini |
rather than just so that your name is smaller |
AJMansfield |
but I get it, doing no harm isn't good enough |
Randomini |
it's not really useful |
Randomini |
or at least, not useful enough to merit changing the thing, I think |
This basically shows he did not get permission from either A Random Day or technical team (to the best of my knowledge; he did not say he got permission in the logs, nor did he say he didn't get permission). kaktus mentioned that redirect pages are essentially system pages, and you need staff permission/to be staff in order to do so. I don't know where these guidelines can be found, or this rule, so if anyone can shine a light on that, let me know. However, given the superfluous reasoning for it, and the lack of permission from anyone for it, it was agreed in staff chat by a number of users that a thread should be made to keep this on-record.
