The Authors' Pages page has not seen a substantiative update in years. It's currently broadcasting a message that the site hasn't held for a long time (longer than the time I've been here, anyway) - by putting staff rank next to the author page link, it implies that a user's current or previous staff role has something to do with their ability to write. That's a big no in my book.
I've prepared a revamped version of the page with entirely functional changes: http://scp-sandbox-3.wikidot.com/croquempolicy, revision 47
Changes:
- The column containing info on what site staff rank an author holds or used to hold has been removed, because that has absolutely nothing to do with being a site author and I've no idea who thought that would be a good idea
- Changed all author page links to triple-bracket links with the "page title as link text" feature ([[[page-name | ]]]) so that the page names of authors' pages update automatically (this is why the links appear to be broken on the sandbox)
- Amended usage instructions to account for the above changes
- Instructions + context have been moved to the top of the page, above the list of authors' pages
- Removed all 'roleplaying' elements (the big CLASSIFIED header, encouragement to use "chevrons" (??), referring to the list as a "database" or "repository"
- Added a paragraph explaining what an author page is, which (as far as I'm aware) was *technically* never defined
- Removed some superfluous CSS
- Noted that the author page requirements include essays and jokes
- Removed TroyL's very outdated advice on how to make a low-maintenance author page
- Replaced the above advice with links to the listpages guide and to components made specifically for author pages
The result is a list of author pages that is informative, tonally neutral, and does not imply that being site staff magically makes you a better author.
This thread is to collect any comments/suggestions on these proposed changes. All staff including JS may comment. When this thread is 72 hours old 7 days old, if there are no unresolved comments I will implement the above changes.
