A movement to differentiate non-fiction and fiction archiving processes, as well as delineate the process of archiving non-fiction pages specifically. There is currently no policy dictating the archiving or ARCing process.

The text of the proposal is as follows:

We differentiate ARCing fiction and non-fiction pages. We leave ARC to designate fiction pages, and a new category, archived, for non-fiction pages.

The archive process (defined by the movement to the archived: category for a non-fiction page) for those pages tagged with admin, guide, and essay be handled by the MAST Team in the following process:

In the case of an updated guide or essay being approved via an 05 vote, the previous version will automatically be archived.

Should something else in this category (admin, guide, or essay) need to be archived for any other reason, the MAST captain must approve the archiving.

Any staff OS+ may make an objection to the archiving by contacting the MAST captain. This objection will be discussed by the relevant parties before responding to the staff member who has submitted the objection.

Please vote "Yes" or "No" by utilizing the following format, the vote is open to all OS and above.

Also, please note that this version is slightly different than the one that we discussed in that it does not exempt archived pages from deletion.

Edit: Proposal now no longer removes the rating module from these pages. I will alert the four parties that have already voted of this change so that they may update accordingly.

After discussion with relevant members of MAST, this iteration of the proposal will be shelved. I have locked the thread accordingly.

The fact that the archived pages are not exempt from deletion is effectively meaningless when you can't vote on them. This is no longer an issue.

Edit: I meant to vote "No" the first time, my mistake. I like everything but the idea of these pages being vulnerable to deletion should they reach the threshold.

I cannot support an archival proposal that does not protect these pages from deletion in some way. It both defeats the actual purpose of archival and legitimately places many of the archived pages in jeopardy. There are currently two pages in the archived: category that are in deletion range (though one is exempt anyways) and countless others that are in the low positives. Allowing them to be voted on and allowing them to be eligible for deletion will ensure that at some point, staff will need to make a decision between preserving an archived page and following the deletions process.

Sure, in that scenario we could just not vote in favor of deletion, but that would require an informal agreement amongst all staff that the page in question not be touched. I do not wish to risk the existence of these pages on a technicality of our deletions policy. We're archiving these things for a reason.
