As explained in this thread (http://05command.wikidot.com/forum/t-13825397/fall-promotions-october-2020#post-4803555), the new retirement policy doesn't actually take into account the fact that Reserve staff currently exist, which is something that should probably be fixed.
There's a few ways this issue could be solved, some of which I'll outline below:
Option 1: The Reserve position is discontinued.
Reserve staff have always been in a slightly unclear position, one which was understandable when the retirement policy was all but nonexistent but one that doesn't make as much sense now. If this option was chosen, all staff, without exception, would have to meet the (very low) minimum activity level in the retirement policy, and if they failed to they would be marked as inactive and then retired.
EDIT: If in favour of this option, what should be done with current reserve staff? Should they all become active staff, should it be their captain's decision whether they're active or inactive etc.
Option 2: The Reserve position continues to exist, but has no effect on inactivity and retirement.
Very similar to option 1, in that all staff would be required to meet the minimum level of activity. However, staff would be allowed to be marked as reserve, in order to avoid PMs from users that they may take a long time to respond to etc.
Option 3: The retirement policy is edited in some way.
I don't know how exactly it would be edited, so someone else would have to suggest a possible amendment.
Option 4: Something else.
This discussion is open to all Operational Staff and above, and will last until the timer above expires.
