The fact that it is so much upwoted means that we failed as a community. I'm not exagerrating.
Here's hope one day sensitive people will stop falling for shameless attention seeking and keep SCP standarts a bit higher than this. My sincerest condolences to all people who read 3999 until the very end and felt like it's a total, headache-inducing waste of their time, because for me too it most definitely is.
I'm aware that this is sure to be an unpopular opinion here, many will probably take offence, but I had to say it, even if it will be deleted, censored or ridiculed because of my undoubtedly bad English and my "aggressiveness" towards all people, who try to use SCP Foundation for brazen elevating of their personal problems. Let me be clear about this - I wish author well and full recovery from whatever happened in his life, I don't know him, honestly don't want to know him and I don't wish to offend him personally. But the most important thing was and still is - this is not an SCP object. It is autobiographic "poor me" tale. If you can somehow miraculously convince me that it is SCP - than it's excruciatingly badly written one, which, once again, deserves a downwote for wasting readers time. Author himself agrees with this opinion, citation: "This is barely an SCP and should probably be downvoted for a number of reasons" - truer words have never been spoken about SCP 3999. There are some very long but captivating, well-written, greatly done SCP objects on this site and this is absolutely would not be one of them.
In Russian branch we already have a running gag about "researcher Talloran"(and "Ispod", local RU- branch meme, SCP-1303-RU, which currently finally re-written to readable object from the dark place beyond good and evil where it was from the first iteration) when somebody writes a very long, meaningless, borderline insane SCP. This isn't right to ruthlessly mock someone's work or state of mind and we don't do that, but since SCP-3999 was practically begging for -J article and received it(and it's a good thing about LordStonefish that he had given permission, because self-irony and humbleness is a great quality for any human being, props to him for that), I see nothing wrong in laughing about overdramatic style and truly epic size proportions of SCP-3999(once again, not about issue of mental health of its creator, that's 100% not a laughing matter). I laughed my bottom off with amazing SCP-3999-J, which is the only good thing that I got from all of this mess.
Needless fact for your pleasure: our translated SCP-3999-J in RU- branch has 7 times more upwotes then translation of SCP-3999 itself. After this I feel no need in discussing the contents of article itself. It would be completely pointless.
Anyway, it has so many upvotes not because it has some deep meaning/artistic value or interesting logs, images, audio or aura of masterfully crafted mystery or new, bright idea for SCP object or it's full of really disturbing/unsettling details and pure horror. It was upvoted, because people felt sorry for LordStoneFish, who is an accomplished SCP author and has a lot of other, much better articles that actually are solid honest-to-god SCP objects, though they are usually not much more comprehensive than this one, but that's only IMHO and purely subjective.
I don't know if I need to remind all of you about this, since members of this community obviously turned a blind eye to this, but LordStonefish said that he will leave the site as an author and stay as member of Junior Staff, citation:"this will most likely be the last thing I make for the site" and yet he still writes SCP objects to this day. Which means that he loudly said his goodbyes and presented this article, pseudo "SCP object", as his last work and said himself that it's an SCP about his mental health in real life, but didn't actually left or stopped writing after that. You can argue about technicality of his words "most likely" and his mental state at the moment, but still I believe it's wrong to use SCP Foundation site and community as your cry pillow at your excuse whenever you wish, mental disorder or not. Rules of site must be strictly obeyed by everyone and it's community must be respected by fellow members and authors. You can't just do things like writing pseudo SCP-related articles with purpose of actually writing about yourself and expect that it will be just fine, only because you have a mental health problem and you can't be accountable for your words and actions later. This goes against site rules. Am I wrong about this?
Rules have exceptions for some situations and unusual people, yes, agreed, but why for LordStonefish only? Who else got royal treatment on this site? I don't know anyone else who got away with this, to be honest. If we create "Make-A-Wish" SCP Foundation, I will have both of my hands raised in support of articles made by children with all kinds of disorders to help them feel themselves an SCP Foundation author even for a moment, even if they write basically about their own life and it has little to nothing to do about SCP. But if a grown man/woman uses Foundation to do charity for himself by creating "barely SCP objects", in author's own words, "probably his last work here", grabbing some easily generated attention on mental health issues and feeling so much better about themselves after that stunt to return shortly and keep writing - this is really bad for everyone. Everyone with real (or not) mental disorders(or some other serious real life problem) can start creating things like SCP-3999, every time we will be too ashamed to say "No, sorry, we can't put this on our site, this is objectively bad and does not fit Site Rules, please read How To Write An SCP and re-write this" and quality of articles will drop. Hard. The worst thing in all of this is that we won't be able to reverse this, since we just did an exception for LordStonefish, so why not for everyone else then? It already happened once in 2017 with SCP-3999 and also from upvotes on that object we can believe that most people seem to enjoy the article for many different reasons, but mostly - people feel sorry and they want to provide care and support for leaving and struggling author with upwote, which is totally okay with Site Rules, but actually is some very crafty manipulation of community, because author didn't actually left and our very creative and amazing authors, both new and veterans, should be strongly discouraged to ever repeat this little trick. Write with talent and popularity will come itself. I honestly believe that all of these upwotes are a massive lapse in judgement of community and we have created a horrible precedent here, first and hopefully the last one.
You deside if I'm too harsh or not, I said what I think. If I'm correct in my fears about current state of community, then I will be bombarded with accusations that I despise people with mental disorders, envy LordStonefish regalia on this site, wish to spew my hateful and harmful opinions just to troll or attack someone, etc, but I can assure you that it's not the point. My point was and still is - this is not an SCP object.
Also, a sidenote to all future authors - that "Apollyon" class is a sick joke. It exists on this site only for purpose of trying to make article look "unique"(like in this one) or to try to scare reader "ooooh, it's super-keter, boo!". Please refrain from using it, it really is unnesessary, unless you seek attention for the sake of it. Making 20-30 new classes in desperate attempts to freshen up your work completely demolishes good old "The Locked Box Test". Use Keter or any other established class instead, I beg you. This is embarassing.
