This is a proposal to implement and clarify some rules regarding the Wikiwalk Footers on the bottom of pages.
Going forward, the Wikiwalk Footer will be a mandatory element of all new mainlist SCP pages on the website, whether or not there are extant pages at the SCPs one higher or one lower than the new article. The Wikiwalk Footer will be treated similar to the rating module of a page, where it is a mandatory element and adding it will be an acceptable edit that any user is able to make (as long as they do so correctly).
An example of the Wikiwalk footer code follows below:
The How to Write an SCP guide will be modified accordingly:
In addition to the mandated policy regarding the Wikiwalk Footer above, there are some clarifications to be made that have been Wikiwalk policy regarding the footer for some time, but not formally written up or clarified until now:
- The [[footnoteblock]] is not a true element of the Wikiwalk Footer, but simply an element to allow the Wikiwalk Footer to be placed at the bottom of the page. Users are free to play around with the [[footnoteblock]] however they choose, as long as the Wikiwalk Footer is at the bottom of the page.
- The only element that should be placed below the Wikiwalk Footer is the Licensing Footer. Any and all page content must be placed above both of these Footers. Content may still be placed under the [[footnoteblock]] if the user chooses to do so.
- Editing the structure of the Wikiwalk Footer is not allowed. Any changes to the structure of the footer (not using the div class, changing the arrows or pipes) are forbidden. The following are the only approved modifications:
- Editing a link to the user's author page in the space for the current article. This may replace the SCP-XXXX with the author's username.
- Adding a link that points to the page itself, in situations where this is not redundant or unnecessary. (Intended use case of this clause is to point a link towards the appropriate fragment on a listpages article.)
- Editing the current SCP designation to reflect a format screw. For instance, Taboo replaced SCP-4000 with #green|Taboo##.
- The Wikiwalk Footer should not be placed on -J or -EX articles.
This discussion will run for 1 week, after which a vote will take place. It is open to staff of all levels.
