Winter Promos, Feb 2020
Here we are. Promotion vote thread, February 2020.
These are votes of confidence. If you are unfamiliar or on the fence about someone, vote NO. Only vote yes if the candidate has your confidence and genuinely feels ready for promotion in your mind.
Please post even if you are abstaining from voting.
As a reminder, we established a new bit of policy: Staff may abstain from voting if it is in regards to a Junior Staff member moving to Operational Staff only. If more than one third of staff abstain on a user, and/or less than 60 per cent of voters say yes, this is treated as a no. I will be rounding down.
An Experiment - Staff Interviews.
Staff members Taylor_Itkin does not match any existing user name, Elogee FishTruck does not match any existing user name, TheMightyMcB, AbsentmindedNihilist, and Uncle Nicolini interviewed our promo candidates prior to this thread being put up. I implore all staff to read these. The interviews can be found in StaffChat’s topic.
This promotion vote will end on:
++11:59 P.M. EST on Tuesday, March 3.
Because a few people have brought it up, we WILL be having a separate thread for new admins to be promoted this cycle. We separate the two, because administrative power (as in, the mechanical ability to alter the wiki from the backdoor) requires specific discussion behind the scenes and on 05command.
Operational Staff Voting:
This is an open vote for all staff members.
Below is a group of suggestions regarding JUNIOR STAFF who Team Captains have nominated to be voted upwards to OPERATIONAL STAFF. Please read the commentary provided in order to help your judgement regarding these staff. If you feel they have displayed readiness, vote yes. If they are not ready, vote no; please explain your reasoning.

Aismallard is competent, takes initiative, and is receptive to feedback. They've been critical to the recent wikiwalk footer project, and honestly have done a lot of great work in general since they came on to the team. The only reason they weren't promoted last time was they had just joined the team.** |

cybersqyd provides extremely reliable feedback in response to PMs, and is extremely well-balanced in skills for reviewing both concepts and full drafts. They're polite, hardworking, and extremely patient and understanding when it comes to interacting with authors. Examples of their recent work are here: http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-13064919/it-wears-a-mask-needs-greenlight#post-4512237 (draft critique from PM request), http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-13060661/psuedo-immortality-greenlight-request#post-4511116 (conceptual critique with greenlight), and http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-13064887/scp-concept:bear-me#post-4510797 (addressing forum guidelines to a new author) |
Optional Feedback: |
This is just a slight nitpick, but I feel like they could be a bit more firm in their posts when they're acting with staff authority. Also, just remember to take it easy once in awhile and don't overwork yourself! |

From taylor_itkin: Akimoto is a fantastic staffer all-around. I know that he is a good asset to all the teams he is present on, and for Seminars he is indispensable. The amount of work he does in general is astounding. He has been instrumental in planning and helping to execute the Orientation Seminars and they wouldn’t be getting off the ground without his input and work. He is by far one of the most active people I see not only on JS but on Staff as a whole, and his promotion is something he easily deserves. Gee is reliably active in both Forum and Site duties, both when providing feedback and addressing rule-breaking content. He is also regularly active in IRC, his preferred medium for giving draft critique. An example of a typical Ideas Forum response can be found here, and typical pieces of feedback on a posted work can be found here and here. He has consistently attended our site crit meetings and is an active participant. He is a good sounding board for ideas there and has a thumb on the pulse of the community. |

gee's conceptual critique output is pretty difficult to match- oftentimes when the forums are getting backlogged, gee will take care of the matter almost singlehandedly. They're great at giving short and snappy feedback that doesn't get too bogged down in details, and are discerning with regards to telling new authors how to improve their work. They're also great at addressing critique that is overly vague or otherwise in need of improvement. Examples of their staff work are: http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-13060661/psuedo-immortality-greenlight-request#post-4510571 (critique with no greenlight) and http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-13036558/the-pocket-game#post-4511051 (critique with greenlight) and http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-13062028/scp-idea-need-greenlight#post-4509284 (addressing problematic feedback and forum guidelines) |

This is pretty consistent across all highly active Butterfly Squad JS-remember to take time for yourself! Not necessarily a weakness, but given how many high output days you have in a given month, remember to relax and recharge every now and then. |

Review: |
From TSATPWTCOTTTADC: N_Aepic_Fael has been very good on the monthly news team — N_Aepic_Fael has been doing good work on site news and seminars. He has consistently been available and willing to help with new tasks that come up. He is quite active on the forums and in IRC where he can be seen helping users with all sorts of things from crit to licensing. He works fast and works independently. A full listing of his responsibilities can be found at http://kontainer.djkakt.us/naepic-responsibilities |

As this user works directly under Elogee, I shall let their words descripe N_Aepic_Fael. Know this is seconded in all aspects by myself: "N_Aepic_Fael is my top choice for a promotion. He's the most active and consistent Licensing JS I have at my disposal, he's mostly self-sufficient but will ask for help from me when he needs it, and he visibly enjoys his work, often going above and beyond what I expected of him. He does his work with no reminders, and is efficient at doing so. If I had to give critique on him, he occasionally exhibits somewhat timid behavior, in a self-deprecating "my work isn't good enough" sense, just in my personal talking with him. These are few and far between as far as I'm aware, though. For his licensing work alone, I'd give N_Aepic_Fael a YES vote if put up for promotion." |

Naepic is great at addressing concepts that are too close to existing works, and providing suggestions for how to improve concepts to do better with the audience. They also are very conscientious regarding concepts of potentially delicate/questionable nature, and are able to handle such discussions with grace and clear, concise honesty. Examples of their work are here: http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-13040731/scp-idea:the-rural-bureau-mural#post-4500107 (giving suggestions on concept development) and http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-13040423/mishandled-simple-anomaly-sapient-smart-home-system#post-4500104 (noting another SCP article) and http://www.scp-wiki.net/forum/t-13038992/scp-idea:contagious-homosexuality#post-4499083 (questionable material) |

Ditto above—make sure to give yourself some "me time" so you don't get burned out. Also, if you're getting overloaded with PMs, feel free to ask for the Roster to be updated so you can take a break from requests. |

Raddagher |
Review: |
From taylor_itkin and Uncle Nicolini: Raddagher is a wonderful staffer for many reasons. She is extremely driven and is always one of (if not the) first people to volunteer for grunt work and miscellaneous tasks. She is a machine and will do anything you tell her to do without asking questions. She is present at any chance she can be for team discussions and has a very level head on her shoulders. I have no doubt she will be a large benefit to the staff team as a whole. A listing of her work can be found at http://scp-sandbox-3.wikidot.com/raddstaff |
Optional Feedback: |
From taylor_itkin: Her activity is relatively niche - outside of general duties, the only thing that sets her apart is that she does the art for the seminars. This is extremely valuable but doesn't easily transfer to other teams. |

Review: |
rattles is a knowledgeable, personable, and active user on the main site and in site19 and its ancillary channels. They contribute positively to the official site crit processes and are a budding writer. I was actually going to put rattles up in the previous cycle, but we had a heart to heart and rattles asked to be deferred so that they can experience how much workload they can expect in college. This ability to accurately scope their own life and have a healthy relationship with their duties, while still being here consistently, is an excellent sign to me. |

Croquembouche has been a solid technical OS for over a year now. His work has been consistent, and he's taken initiative multiple times when necessary. Overall, I think he's got the qualities to be a moderator at this time. The only feedback that would work against Croq is the slight tendency to look before he leaps. Not enough for me to speak against nominating him, but just something to be careful about as he moves up. |

http://topia.wikidot.com/elogee-s-responsibilities-and-accomplishments + from ProcyonLotor Elogee maintains a quiet but active presence on Community Outreach. Commentary: |
There is a lot to say about Elogee, but I think the highest praise I can give him is that he essentially runs Images as its own team. And he does so excellently. He's taken perhaps the single largest staff task of any team and just… knocked it out of the park, both by himself and with a cadre of JS that I have assigned to him, who he has both instructed and directs on a day to day level. I know this is a cliche in promotion posts but he is already operating as not only a moderator but a captain. His tireless work is awe-inspiring, even for me. I would mention him in the same breath as Zyn in terms of tireless commitment to the site. On the negative side, I would very much like to see some engagement with the site beyond Images and his (also stellar, and described above/below) work on Community Outreach, as his focus can at time seem quite singular. I have every faith that a promotion will encourage him to engage with the site in a broader way, which will be extraordinarily beneficial for him as a staffer and staff as an entity. |

Katie has long been the main our main representative to the INT branches, and has achieved monumental success in that role. Without her, our relations and our cooperation with our overseas colleagues would never have become as fruitful as they are today. http://topia.wikidot.com/mcb-s-staff-accomplishments from taylor_itkin: To be blunt, there is a possibility that the Seminars project would be a failed project without TheMightyMcB and the work he has done for the team. I needed a second-in-command for the team and as soon as I asked and he agreed, he stepped into a leadership position with extreme effectiveness. He has been absolutely crucial to the development of the team’s inner organization and structure as well as keeping our hubs and site pages up to date. I consult with TheMightyMcB on every decision I make for Seminars team and even though I am the Team Lead and have final say on things, I trust his opinion for our team above all others and plan to leave the team entirely in his control should I need to step down/take a break. |
