Sent them the following PM:
Hello flarn2006,
It has come to SCP Wiki staff's attention that you have been repeatedly commenting an .io game link in the forums of SCP-687. Staff consider these types of repeated contentless posts as spam, which is explicitly against the rules of the wiki. Do not continue this behavior.
Regards,
TheMightyMcB

Got a reply:
I was only posting it because I thought people would like it. It's not a self-promotion or anything; I have no ties to the game's creator. I won't continue to post it if it's against the rules, but could you please explain exactly what's wrong with posting a relevant link? If you look at the game, the resemblance to SCP-687 should be pretty clear.
Would there still be a problem if I hadn't posted it multiple times? I had posted it a few times in the comments, mainly in response to specific people who had expressed a desire to play a game like 687. I wanted to let them know since that comes pretty close to what they were looking for. But if a single link to it would be okay, then I'm fine with getting rid of all those comments and just sticking with the forum thread I created. Would that be okay? If not then that's fine; I just thought I'd ask.
Also, no offense, but I think ProcyonLotor could have handled the situation better when he locked the thread. He told me to "stop fucking spamming [it] everywhere", seemingly assuming bad faith from the start, when I honestly had no idea anyone was seeing it in that way.
I haven't replied yet but will post it below when I do.

To be clear, posting about the game is fine. Posting about it three times in the same thread, two of which were on threads that are older than most toddlers, is where the issues came in. As stated in the site rules:
Don't make contentless or excessively short posts (spam), don't bump threads for attention, and don't post on threads more than a few months old if you're not contributing substantially to the conversation.
Those users won't be checking that thread anytime soon and they won't see your link.
To be clear, you're not in trouble or anything like that. The pm is to ensure that you've seen that the spam is a problem, that's all.
As for ProcyonLotor, feel free to get in contact with staff about it if you want to, but frankly his response is par for the course.
Further conversations below. He is quoteblocked, I am not.
Okay. I figured those rules were specific to the forum; most communities don't treat comments with the same formality so I was unaware that we did. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
Why was the forum thread locked though? It doesn't appear to run afoul of anything you said.
You'd have to ask the specific moderators in question for that. I would wager it has to do with the pattern of spammy behavior.
With regards to our forum rules, they're generally a product of wikidot. The forum system we're stuck with can be easily derailed with just a few comments, so the community has traditionally benefitted from expecting a higher threshold of content from the forums.
Would you mind taking a look at the thread in question, and bringing it up with him if, with our discussion in mind, you feel it should be unlocked?
If you think the thread should be unlocked, I think an understanding and apologetic PM to the mod in question should be more than enough. Ask and ye shall receive, and all that jazz.
No harm in asking, especially if you're polite about it.
Okay; I'll send him a message. Thank you.
I didn't reply. Then, today, I got this one
Here is what I said to him:
I apologize for posting comments that ran afoul of the rules. I was under the impression that posts of that sort were okay in article comments; I now know I was mistaken.
That said, I was talking to TheMightyMcB after he messaged me about the issue, and I pointed out that the forum thread you locked, on its own, didn't seem to violate the rules. He didn't seem to disagree, but he suggested I contact you about it as you were the one who locked it.
Is there any chance the thread could be reopened? I'm fine with you removing my comments on the article if you haven't already, or I can if you'd like, but I honestly feel like the thread, taken for what it is, is a relevant, on-topic post that could very well be of interest to the SCP community for a few reasons, not just due to its similarity to SCP-687.
Thank you.And this was his reply:
No, there is not. You've spammed that link enough and it will be remaining locked.
Do you think he is being reasonable? Like I said, I was not aware that the rules worked the way they did for comments, and I don't see any issues with the thread itself that would mean it should be locked. Is there any way I can appeal his decision?
Moderators have a degree of discretion that they are allowed to exercise when making these sorts of decisions. If ProcyonLotor felt it was justified to keep the thread locked for spam, then frankly, that's good enough for me. My deference to moderators on this matter was not one borne from my opinion, but instead because I am not a moderator, and therefore I couldn't have helped you. I don't want to tell you one thing and have moderators tell you another.
Two main takeaways here from me are that 1, this guy really likes this game, and 2, he seems to be trying to pit Procy and myself against each other in an effort to get his thread unlocked.
The more he tries to push this game, the more I suspect he has something to do with its development, and the happier I am to keep that thread locked.
Even if he's not related to its development his absolute lunatic monomania on the subject provides all the justification I need for keeping it locked.
He's still going. I won't be replying to him any further after this.
Oh okay; thanks for explaining. Is there a place I can lodge a complaint against his handling of the issue though? And do you feel like I have a legitimate case for doing so?
You can always go over his head and talk to a member of our disciplinary committee, but to speak plainly, you're making a mountain out of a molehill here. You spammed us with a link 4 times in a day and staff cleaned it up. Having a thread locked isn't a big deal. It happens all the time on every site that has a forum system.
Either talk to Disc to escalate the issue or drop it. This is above my pay grade and I really don't much care what happens either way.
I guess disc should be expecting to hear from this guy soon. Have fun with that.
