Definitely an interesting idea, but it just feels like itś missing something. It needs some other push, but I don't know what.

This one's really weird, but the whole idea of an "event" every third day could make for some very entertaining tension in the report, and maybe using some sort of log to reveal the whole blob of flesh and leave it at some sort of cliff-hanger. That would be a good read. You may want to check and see if their are any other skips with the whole sacrificial event trope in it, though. Other than that, it sounds good to me!
